AYURVEDA and PAIN

According to Ayurveda, all physiological pain is due to 'Vata' This means 'dryness, cold and lightness' in the body constitution. So a simple way is to:

1. increase the hydration in your body : Drink warm water every morning with the juice of 1 lemon (1 tsp), some sweetener and a pinch of cinnamon powder.

Boil 2 litres of water with 3-4 cloves in it. Cool and drink this water through the day. Make this a regular habit.

Include one meal of only raw food - fruits, salads - in your diet. You can add soaked / roasted peanuts, mung sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, to make it more filling.

Eliminate all dehydrating foods and drinks from your diet like tea coffee, cola, synthesised colours, flavours, bakery stuff like breads, cake, cookies/ biscuits, chocolates.

2. Get warm: exercise; drink warm liquids; add warming spices to your foods like cinnamon, ginger, garlic, nutmeg, clove (these are in india. Every region would have their own warming spices); warm milk

Ensure a regular routine of meals, sleeping, exercise

Eliminate all cooling things like iced drinks, beans

3. Add heaviness to your diet: include natural/ unprocessed oils- olive, mustard, sesame, ghee (indian subcontinent), white butter, nuts, soaked dry fruit like figs, raisins, khurmani, dates.

Eliminate all things that cause lethargy, bloating, acid reflux, heavy head. These are all symptoms of your system getting loaded with toxins.

All these go with the prefix - PURE. None of your over-the-counter stuff. They are ALL compromised. Accept the fact and then start searching for alternatives.... or should i say 'the real stuff'.

More on emotional states, next time.
