Typical Effective Dose of Lyrica

My Dr has prescribed Lyrica for my constant cheek, eye and ear pain. He started me on 50 mg and every 5 days I am to increase the dose by 50 mg. I'm now on 150 mg but still not getting any relief at all. I've just been wondering what a typical effective dose is?? When will I know if this is going to work for me?

I am grateful for the slowly increasing schedule in that I haven't noticed any side effects, but at the same time it's so discouraging to know I could spend months slowly increasing a medication that may not have any effect at all. Then to start all over again with something else . . . ugh.

My pain decreased at 100 mg/3X day. That's usually the maximum dosage, from what I've read. Have you tried Gabapentin? My pain completely went away on 100mg/3X day with that, but my intestinal tract couldn't tolerate it. Have you been warned about weight gain?

yes, my Drs parting words to me were "just don't gain weight!" ha.ha. :/ It's so discouraging to me.

I had only tried amitriptyline before this and it made me ridiculously sleepy.
