What are some common dosages of Lyrica for the TN patients on this forum? I started 2 weeks ago at 75 mg once per day for 3 days, then uped to 150 mg. I did that for 5 days, then uped to 225 mg per day. I feel like that is probably still fairly low and will be at 7 days on that dosage, Monday. I think I need to call the Dr. for another increase, but don't know if I should hold off and deal with the morning and night pain for a while longer. Even though this is only my 3rd med, I have realized how different "normal" doses are across all.
I think I'm a little worried that I will become immune to yet another med if I keep asking for increases after 7 days. I'm coming off of an 8 day stint of no talking, eating, or drinking, which Lyrica pulled me out of. I just don't want to go back to that and am willing to put up with "minor" pain, in order to draw out the potency of the meds. Any advice? --Missy
I am unable to give you good advice. Since I am also taking Lyrica, I can provide some personal views.
Personally, I feel that there is no fixed dosage of Lyrica. I let the doctor decide how much I need to take. My doctor stops increasing the dosage once I said I am better. Occasionally there is a spike, I try to bear with it. If I cannot bear with it, the doctor will increase the dosage . Sometime the pain changed to another form, then new med will be prescribed in addition to the current one. I do hope that you can get out of the pain with low dosage of Lyrica.
I've wondered the same thing about the dosage. My neurologist started me at 50 mg of Lyrica then I've been increasing the dose in 50 mg increments every 5 days. Right now I'm at 200 mg (divided into 2 daily doses) and I'm still not getting any relief at all. My Dr just told me there's no way to know which dose will be effective for an individual and you want the lowest possible dose that provides relief (to minimize side effects). Although this makes good sense to me, it is still frustrating to realize I could go over a month slowly increasing the med just to discover it's not going to work for me at all and then start over with another one! I really don't know what the answer is, or what your experiences have been with other meds, but I think you could safely keep increasing the dose until you get satisfactory relief. This is only the 2nd med I've tried - I'm pretty new to this whole thing. I'm not sure if I should just give up with it already or keep increasing. Oh well. Best of luck to you!!
I don't see the neurologist until Friday but my family doctor started me off on 2 x 75mg and I am now taking 2 x 150mg which has helped with the pain somewhat.
I still have daily pain but it is more bearable and I can function, most of the severe pain has dissipated.
The Lyrica is making me tired and I am having some cognitive problems so I am not keen at the moment to move to a higher dose.
If the pain gets worse I might have to re-think the dosage.
Well , I still think it is wise to start with low dose because it takes time for the med to work. Every 5 days is the normal practice . It is frustrating to realize it doesn’t work after over a month. This is a slow process and I fully understand what you are going through and have suffered from this. Increasing the dose too rapidly may not produce better results . What we are suffering is a rare illness and the medicines we are taking are very strong and have many side effects. It is also a fact that there is no fixed formulae for all.
I take 150mg twice daily. I did not get any relief from it at first but then my doctor combined it with Baclofen which is a muscle relaxer (10mg twice daily) and that has helped. My pain if pretty controlled at the moment but I am having an MVD done in 3 weeks because of the side effects of the medications. I am so tired all the time and I see a difference with my work. My husband & kids suffer too because I just want to sleep all the time. I am only 33 and do not want to spend the rest of my life on these meds and with this "brain fog".
