Lyrica

I’m just wondering what kind of dose people are on? The doctor started me on it yesterday at just 25mg 3 times a day and I’ve been trying really hard not to take codeine so that I can see how the lyrica is doing but at the moment I don’t feel that it is doing much I’ve been in constant pain now, bearable pain but annoying?

Hi touie, I just wanted to let you know that a few years back, my neurologist put me on Lyrica for my TN. I cannot recall the dosage I'm sorry, but just wanted to let you be aware of this in case. I had a bad reaction to it after a few weeks, where i began being ataxic, which is like being extremely drunk. I couldnt walk straight, was bumping into and falling all over things, and couldnt stop crying. The neurologist had to ween me off it as you cannot stop it right away, and told me that this happens in about 4% of people. I just wanted to let you know so that if you notice any of these symtoms to see your doctor right away. I really hope it helps you with your pain. As I understand, it takes a little time for the beneficial effects to begin with Lyrica. Wishing you great success.

Most anti seizures take time to build up in the body before pain relieving effects are felt.

Thanks for your replies I’ll keep an eye out for the side effects, I was expecting to feel dizzy and drowsy but instead I feel really good and maybe slightly hyper, hope those effects last!!!

Hi Touie,

I'm fairly new to this whole TN thing but I started on 75 mg twice a day and then moved up to 150mg twice a day.

On Lyrica I do feel tired all the time, my hair is falling out and I have noticed a loss of cognitive functioning. For example I now find it very hard to write a decent sentence whereas previously it was something I could do easily.

The Lyrica did help with the pain but as Jackie said it did take a few weeks to see an improvement.

Hope Lyrica works well for you, it seems to be a case of trying meds until you can get the right combination for your body.

Hugs Trish

I'm taking 25mg 4 times a day and it isn't really controlling my TN pain but it has reduced the frequency of my migraines

The doctor said I could double my dose today so now I am taking 50mg 3 times a day, fingers crossed it starts to work soon my pain has been really bad his week!

I started it Tuesday, Wednesday I felt really happy maybe slightly high, Thursday I had no effects at all, today I felt spaced out and faint inthe morning, not sure if it was the meds or my low blood pressure, felt better in the afternoon!

Hope the increased meds help with the pain, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hugs

Trish

Thanks
