I went to my neurologist today because of the constant pain i was having. He changed my medication from Lyrica to Trileptal. Anyone used this before? Any bad side effects? Also prescribed pain meds but insurance wouldn't pay for it. I couldn't afford it so I dont remember the name.
Trileptal was designed to have many of the primary effects of Tegretol, with fewer or less severe side effects. It is becoming recognized as one of the two primary medications of choice in typical TN. The IASP also recognizes the Tri Cyclic Antidepressant medications as effective in atypical TN and other forms of neuropathy pain. If you're having constant burning, throbbing pain rather than volleys of electric-shock stabs, then meds like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline in the TCA family might be used if Trileptal is ineffective.
