TN flareup

I recently had a death in the family, someone very close. My TN seems to be acting up. Not awful, but I have to be careful. I saw stars when I was washing my face. I have to be careful eating as well. Has anyone had this? When u go thru something very emotional that your tn acts up? I was just wondering and hoping it goes away soon. Thanks. Hope everyone is well.

That would stress talking. Stress does all sorts of crazy things to you body, a TN flare would not be surprising. And with stress you may be clenching your jaw/teeth and not be noticing it, putting more pressure on those nasty trigger spots for TN.

Have you tried the lidocaine patch? Cut a strip off the patch and put it along the nerve branch that’s giving you trouble. I aboslutely can’t say enough good things about it! In the USA and Canada you can get 4% OTC under the brand SalonPas. You can also get 5% as prescription.

Yes, it is good that you are “aware” of these triggers.
Awareness is important because once you detect your body experiencing stress, you can shift your focus to mindfulness meditation - try taking slow breaths and focus on the breaths and count to 10 slowly.

Yes, yes, yes. When I am under stress of any kind my ATN flares.

Oh what a wonderful idea. Its funny, I was putting stuff on my knee and i was wondering if that would work on my face. I’m getting that. Thx Az.

Hope you’re doing well.

Yes, a big "10-4 " on stress causing flare-ups. It also does it with me, and my TN. If it gets unbearable, I will try the patch, thanks azurelle!

I can tell you with absolute certainty that my TN (type 2) is worse when I am stressed. It is not caused by stress, but I find in my years of battling this, it is definitely exacerbated by stress, in my humble opinion. Very sorry for your loss.

Pam

thanks.

Yes here too. Definately spikes during times of stress or intense emotions. My triggers are sensation and muscles moving. So Avoiding or being cautious helps until things calm down. One of my Docs added Baclofen as a complimentary med to my a Carbamazepine it helped. Good luck in this battle. :shield::crossed_swords:️

Stress is one of my worse triggers. A few years ago after my dad passed away I was left with one of my worst flare ups ever. It is really unfair, because as a full-time working mom stress is inevitable! Take time for self-care and maybe try counselling to help you through your grieve.

good idea. I seem to be calming down. I’m still taking 3 pills a day just in case.

and I’m so sorry about your dad.
