Does stress bring on a TN attack?

I now think that stress of entertaining, giving talks, etc. brings on my attacks. Comments, please?

I think so. I find when I work at saying no and keeping life on an even keel I seem to have a better reserve for handling the TN issues. When I try and cut back on meds to save money, my stress levels go up and so do the issues with TN. Go figure which is the cause :) I have been in a maintain now for awhile, but it is always there a little twinge leaving me to always wonder is it going to go off now? blessings~~

Thanks, Shepherdgirl and SimpleLife. If I pop a Tegretol 100 mg upon the first "bee sting," it stops very soon and I sit down, if conditions allow, and read a book or start jigsaw puzzling. I wrote a novel, the Bacchus Claim, and have had to give up giving talks about it. C'est la TN!

You can call your doctor and ask for Lidocaine Cream Rx for pain. It helps cut the pain down. Put it on face 4x per day if needed.

What works even better.... when you want to have less pain at home - Lidocaine face patches..... 12 hrs. of relief. Also prescription.

Stress upsets TN - and TN upsets Stress !!!

Stress increases heart rate which increases flow of blood in arteries thereby increasing pressure on nerve ergo TN pain worsens.

Very good thoughts! Thanks!

I had a phone job interview this morning that I didn't think I was nervous about. But I woke up with bad TN and a migraine-like headache. It hurt through the interview and then settled down until my meds wore off. Go figure.

I feel for you. Please be kind to yourself and lean on your spirtuality

Thanks again. I have bought "Striking Back" and have enjoyed it. Will look into Lidocaine patch. Dorsey

I can’t say that stress brings on my TN, but I have noticed that it can worsen due to stress.
I’ve noticed that a few times…as a result I’ve found that I don’t hang onto stress like I used too, I tend to acknowledge whatever is causing me stress and move on in my thoughts so as to avoid the worsening of pain.
I meditate frequently, and this has helped me enormously.

Talking, entertaining etc can also aggravate my TN. I’ve been fairly isolated the last few years and it has definitely had an effect on my once " social butterfly/ outgoing personality"…

Agree with Ann re; blood pressure elevation as well.

Mimi this is a very good analogy, and says what I meant. :)
