Thank you Red... financial assistance for OHSU Neurology Clinic for uninsured/unemployed

Red, you got me thinking with a reply to a post to someone. You listed a link to those on the Medical Advisory Board for TN. One of the doctors is the head of the leading teaching hospital in the state of Oregon. I clicked on the clinic and started poking around. It occurred to me that as a state university, as well as a teaching hospital, that they might have financial assistance for the uninsured/unemployed..... I found the financial assistance department and called. Because I have NO income and am living off of savings, I qualify for 100% of my medical fees to be paid. OMG, you have NO IDEA how much stress that has relieved from me. I have to send in a ton of paperwork, but it is SO WORTH it to be seen by one of the top medical hospitals in the the NW and by a clinic that specializes in TN.

I called up there, and once they have all my information, I can be seen as soon as two weeks from the date of receiving everything!

So, if you live in Oregon and are uninsured, this program allows for discounts as well as free medical care depending on your income level. You have to be an Oregon resident.

Thank you Red for the information. I feel a sense of hope. I was referred to a neuro, but did not have the money to pay for the visit (at least not in my meager budget that has to last me until I am employed again or start my own firm, which right now, I can't do because of how impaired I am on medication sometimes, and pain at other times).

I am VERY pleased for you, Lisa. When you talk with the OHSU financial assistance office, could you please do all of our membership a favor and ask how generally their arrangements are also practiced by other State Colleges in other States? And would you very much mind if I forward your posting as a general broadcast message to all members of the site? I believe it has that level of importance. I also intend to edit your message into a web page that I maintain on my personal web site, pertaining to "Free and Low Cost Internet Resources for Healthcare". I will credit you as source of the information.

Thanks again for sharing your positive outcome.

Go in Peace and Power

Yes to all Red. I do believe it is very, very important as well. My understanding is somehow they get some kind of federal credit for all of this.

It was really easy to find. Now that I know what I am looking for, I noticed the Mayo Clinic has something very similar called "Charity Care."

I have now checked with three of the places these doctors work at from the Advisory Board. The process is all the same, and I found the information the same way. I clicked on their Billing & Insurance links. This led to a link you could click on that said financial assistance, or uninsured, or charity care. Once you clicked on that, it gave you contact information, as well as sometimes forms, or what the eligibility is. It is all based on the federal poverty guidelines.
