New medication for Trigeminal Neurapathy after Gamma

I started a new med yesterday. Lost all feeling on the right side of face including inner ear and right side teeth, 15 months out of what was considered a successful Gamma. I also had chronic teeth and jaw pain, with an occasional burning sensation that would last 20 to 30 seconds. The initial remedy was 600 mg of Tegretol and 900 mg of Neurontin. The final objective was to eliminate the Tegretol altogether. The Neurontin at that high of dosage caused my mouth to swell inside with little red welts on the inside of my lip. It was so painful. I also became very tearful and groggy. The Tegretol by itself was not going to do the job so we switched to a new drug called Aptiom, (eslicarbazepine acetate) tablets. It is said to produce fewer side effects than Tegretol, such as confusion and memory issues. It is now 24hours later and my lip is less tender and my face has stopped feeling so electric. We started at 400mg with the intent to get me up to 800mg. I dropped the Neurontin to 400 mg also. So this is the new plan. I hope this information is helpful to anyone looking to explore another medication for pain management.
