Tegretol is working!

When I first was diagnosed with ATN I was started on Tegretol and once I was at 200mg twice a day, I was pain free on the right side of my face/teeth and gums. Then a new tooth started hurting. It was the front left tooth. I was worried about having it on both sides now. This was a terrible pain, and my neurologist has upped my dose of Tegretol to 400 mg twice a day. I've been taking the new dose for a week now, and today was the first day that I have been pain free. A woman here told me that a new dose could take a week or two to reach its full effects and I was concerned about the wait. But she was right! It's finally working. I am sitting here at 10:20 pm and I am pain free even when the pain was always worse at night. I am so grateful for Tegretol. It has been a true lifesaver.

So glad you are finding some relief! Pain can come and go so be patient. Such good news that a low dose is helping you though. That means that you can possibly be pain free with your medication and get on with your life! Keep us updated :)

Thanks! I'm not sure 800mg a day is considered a low dose though.

Oh sorry. I read that wrong. Thought it was 400mgs all together. I think you can go as high as 1200mgs. Glad it is working anyways!

This sounds very interesting. I get fitted with a mouthpiece today to hold medicine against the nerve endings, damaged by infections and the resulting, necessary surgery to remove. I have a pulling feeling, but then I have the problem in the top center of my face. Do you know if tegretol comes in a topical cream?

put topical into the search bar...here is one convo I found
