Lidocaine patches?

I am just curious about lidocane patches. I am back and forth on medicine/dosage until I get to my new doctor. The pain has been pretty uncontrollable due to that. Do the lidocane patches work well and can they be taken with medicine? I need something extra here! Also, if any of ya'll have had seizures, can you tell me if it sounds like this: rapid blinking, arm tingling and twitching. All of that out of my control. Does that sound like one?? Thanks guys!

Hi lizloulou,
I found a cream at my pharmacy ( I’m in Canada) called Emla, it’s a lidocaine mix. Small tube but just a little spread on my face makes a huge difference and numbs the area. Patches are included. It was purchased over the counter, no prescription.

I have lidocaine patches and they are expensive. BUT they do help. They would not replace medication but a nice add on at times. You can cut them into small pieces to fit where they need to go. That cream sounds great!

I will have to see if any texas pharmacies have it here!

LOVE my lidocaine patches. They have been a huge help for me. I would definitely recommend getting them.

I haven’t tried the patches. But I use the lidocaine cream and it is AMAZING!! It’s always my 1st option when I’m having break through pain. But not a replacement for any medication. Also I have got in the past is Motrin patches. Since I can not take Motrin orally. I use the patches for anytime I have swelling in my face. Works like a charm every time  and I don’t know about the other issue, if it is or is not a sign of a seizure. What medication are you on? If you don’t mind me asking. It could be a side effect of your meds.

I am on 300 mg of gabapentin a day. Had a bad reaction to tegretol so I had to stop that.

If you have good insurance I would get the lidocaine patches and cream - cream is for when I go out and dont' want bandage looking thing on my cheek -- BUT If I could only choose one it would be patches -- last longer, stronger dose. I have worn them out in public - because the cream is just somewhat less pain relief..... BUT if cream is all you can afford - then go for it..... here in US - these are prescription only..... you don't have to "see" your doc - just have them call in prescription!

I was able to stay on lower dose of meds thanks to these products......!

I am on gabapentin just until I see a new doc. The gabapentin makes me like a walking zombie and doesnt work very well, leaving me with touchier triggers, more flare ups, and making me fatigued. So I am looking for something else. I probably wouldn't mind the patches in public if it helps a lot. I was not able to get in contact with my current neuro's nurse so I will be calling back tomorrrow. It is mainly all prescription here which sucks but I am curious if you got asked a ton of questions in public while wearing in public???
