Lidocaine Patches

They sure aren’t pretty! (Picture attached!) So far mixed reviews. They have definitely numbed the skin on my cheek, but I have a tooth bothering me, an ear ache, and off and on some pain at the corner of my eye/nose and I can’t put a patch in any of those places. I’m not sure they are going to work deep enough to control my pain unfortunately. Besides, these are just as bad as the high doses of meds as far as keeping me inside and away from my life. Who wants to go out looking like this?! I guess they are a good base for a mummy costume at Halloween lol

Yikes!

I think you should decorate them!

I wore the patch at home / with family - used clear cream version for outings : )

There are times I would have pasted sandpaper on my face if somebody on here said it worked.

At least you are in a country with that option, there's no patches here ... only the gel which is usually used on mucous membranes (such as when inserting a urinary catheter etc). I have used the gel on trigger points in my mouth and on the skin which if dabbed on thickly seemed to dull it a bit (and nobody can tell it's there).

Gosh, thanks for the picture.
I had always imagined them as little round skin colored bandaid like things. Of course thinking about it that makes no sense, I guess they need to be big enough to cover the painful area.

If the patches help i wouldn’t worry about how it looks, who cares what other people think. For the most part I think people would be very sympathetic if they really knew what it feels like to have TN.

I for one, think the patches give you a certain air of mystery!!!

Big hugs.
Trish

Hey, who cares what they look like if they help the pain. It looks like a surgical dressing and if you had and op you wouldn't eeven think about it. So you go ahead and wear it if it helps. If others have a problem with it it's their problem not yours. hope it helps you.

Trish - The patches - they come like 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches or maybe bigger square

You can cut them up tiny, med, whatever shape and size you want -- or like this example - put as much coverage as you can get!

Thanks KC, I might give them a try.

The weather has turned colder in Sydney and my face is not liking the change, I will get a script from my gp.
I’ve used the mouth wash gel for the roof of my mouth and I find that very helpful.

Hugs
Trish

I found that my pain is too deep for these patches to help and the act of applying and removing them caused me more pain than they were worth unfortunately. Also, the one I tried on my lower jaw wouldn’t stay adhered and just kept falling off. My doc said they really work better for people having diabetic burning pain on their feet. They may work for others, but I did not find them to work for me. Just my personal review for what it’s worth

HCal - I'm sorry they did not work for you..... have you thought about the cream? I also had the same problem of it staying on sometimes while eating. We all have many challenges and this one you can say you tried.

There are other topicals -- go to the groups tab -- there is a topical group you can read -- many have had ketamine+lidocaine work better than lidocaine alone.
