I just got lidocaine cream 5% from my doc and was reading the pamphlet and it says that it is not effective on unbroken skin. Does it still work for you? for those who use it?
Glad you got your hands on some! This is topical right? Or did you get the one for inside the mouth?
Unbroken - as in no cut or a pimple? I'm Confused -- but using it for TN is kinda an off label use....normally you would use it on a burn or other topical pain --- but it cuts right to my zapping nerve
Ask Pharmacist if worried.
You can use on unbroken skin - unless maybe if it goes in your mouth.
No it's topical, for burns or bug bites. But the pharmacist said it would make anything I applied it to numb. Here's what it says on the literature. I tried it on the side where my pain is, above the mouth, I didn't feel much on my skin but my lips did go numb.
Onset of anesthesia
Lidocaine Ointment 5% effects local, topical anesthesia. The onset of action is 3-5 minutes. It is ineffective when applied to intact skin.
here in Israel i was suprised it was without prescription.. but the pharmacist told my that the CREAM isn't for use inside the mouth.. so she gave it to my in a gel form.
a year ago i WAS perscribed a more special formula with lidocaine + ketamin + cloridine (i think)... to rub in the mouth.. i must say - it didn't really help... and made my toungue numb so i couldn't really speak.
i DID find out that i take something on-time GLOVES and just press hard the gums INSIDE my mouth on the far far side of mouth.. .near the throat...and it can help a bit sometimes...
