Licocaine for pain relief

I went to doctor today because I was having bad flare up that started up about 2 weeks ago I have since double my gabapentin and it has helped but I asked him if he would perscribe me some lidocaine cream, patches and or lidocaine mouth wash to have on hand for flare ups he told me know that topical stuff does not help the problem is in the brain Duh! we all know that so do any of the lidocaine stuff really help people on here all the time say that it does so why would he say if he was a good neurologist would'nt he know that \?

ARE THERE ANY GOOD NEUROLOGIST IN ARIZONA

Hi Kath,
When I asked my neurologist he too said it wouldn’t help.( he’s a great neuro too)
But. Here in Canada you can buy a lidocaine mixed cream over the counter called Emla and I tried it and it really does take the edge off. I told my neuro, and he apologized said he would look into it for future patients.
Sometimes they think they know what’s good for us, but they really don’t.
Tell your doctor you’d really like to try it as you’ve heard from others with TN that it has worked. No harm in trying.

Please call your regular doctor,or dentist… No human would deny another a numbing agent!

Groups tab above…find topical meds relief group

I’m furious for you and I personally would switch to a TN educated neurologist…it’s not a narcotic and works for mannnny here!

I am one who would be in pain right now if it was denied me.

Great Cleo!, bravo…it is non sensical…but once upon a time leeches made sense right? If you told me that something in cat treats made my cheek stop zapping… Would I try? Meow!

The constant burning pain of my type 2 TN responded well to the Emla cream slathered along my jaw line and cheekbone it didn’t take the pain away completely but took the edge off by numbing the area which helped greatly!
My microwaveable heating pad also helped, more than the cream. I couldn’t have survived the daily med resistant pain for over 9 months without it.

Just my experience. You never know where relief lies until you try and as many of us know what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the other. That being said when in desperate need of relief from constant horrendous pain, why not try something “safe” that might work to help ease your pain?

I did that and his responce was you cna not believe what is on the internet and i told him I got my info my the Facial pain org. and the living with TN site and he had the nerve to say how do you know if those people really have TN JERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could find a TN educated doctor on my insurance but I may have to go out of network but it would cost me a fortune which I do not have I can not believe it is so hard to find an educated doctor this is my 3rd doctor the first one was really stupid and told me I could take my gabapentin once a day and if I was on tegretol I did not need to get my blood check every few months she I found out was not board certified and the 2nd one well lets say he was a real Jerk all he did was yell at me the whole time he was mad I did not have a referal but my insurance does not require it and he yelled at me for taking medicine that my other doctor perscribed he asked me why I was taking it I told because a doctor perscribed it recamendedd it. I am going to have to see about getting a waiver from the insurance company

Many of my trigger areas are IN my mouth and yes i have viscous lidocaine that i swish with (or just hold in my mouth when i can't swish) and YES it does help. A Lot. It numbs the area for a while...I have to use it sometimes just to be able to take meds, but it DOES make it bearable long enough to even eat a meal.

So, i'd advise your dr that he is mistaken. Lidocaine has been a life saver for me. (literally) It does numb down the trigger areas.

(unless holding that gooey mess in my mouth is really just give me the "placebo" effect..and even then, i'll take it!! LOL )
