Hi I am new to the UK area of this site. Been with the main site since January didn't know this one existed. Its funny if you look at the map of members, there is just little (well that's not right) old me in Spain.
Seriously though I was diagnosed in January and have found this site to be so helpful. Full of info and isn't great to know we are not alone. I have had 2 pain free days, although I know it will not last.
I come from Hayling Island, way down south by Portsmouth and am looking forward to talking to people in UK. Lucky for me my doctor said he is a specialist in this field and MS and has already tested me for MS.
I am on Lyrica and although it does dull the edges of the worst of the pain, it has fried my brains. I fear that dementia is calling me. As I am retired and a penionista here in Spain we only pay 10% of our medication costs. We used to get all our meds free, but since the economic climate changed we are all having to do our bit. I do have a great deal of confidence in the health system here.
Hi Lizzie,
I have had most painful 2days. I am on lyrica 75 mg twice a day and tried to get off it myself. I did not take my medication for 2days- and my god my neck, my lips my back and undermine. Anyway decided to take ibufren and lyrica and went to the gym. Had 3showers and chilli hot dinner. My my it helped. By the way I am told chillies help. So if u can take hot food go for it. I find aggressive cross track in the gym for 1hour helps me. Hope we all have good days. By the way I M going to nia b. health farm I will update u all.
Hi amol, thanks for replying, that's what I am on, it great for the pain but it does terrible things for the brain. I believe it brings on something like early dementure. (not sure I have spelt that right). I am not as brave as you I could not stop taking it I would be too scared of the pain.
You are right exercise does help. If you can stand the extra pain for around 15 mins, the pain seems to diminish and stays gone for a while. I have been pain free for three days, I know it will return soon but it is oh so lovely to get a break.
let us know what the health farm was like. Its very windy here today, so I am hiding indoors.

Hello Lizzie . I live in North Wales and also live mainly on a retirement pension ... and fortunately , at the moment , the prescriptions are free. With age , chronic pain and fairly heavy medication , the prospect of dementia is a constant ... how to work out whether mental failings and memory gaps are due to one or all three of these elements . Today is a bad head day , so please excuse my numb brain .I find that meditation is helpful , and my interest in Buddhism is a great support .... I have needed something other than medication and some rather insubstantial support and advice from the occasional pain clinic . I am an old hand .... my troubles began fairly quietly over 17 years ago and have grown since , and now headaches and nerve pain are the norm . BUT ..... , don't give up or give in !! Hoping today is a pain-free one for you . Regards , Graham .
Hi Graham, thanks for your letter. Gosh you have had it for a while now. My Spanish doctor looked at me told me what it was, TN, and then just said For Life.
It wasn't till I got home and started to do some research I realised how true this was. I have read some real horror stories on the internet and it does leave me very worried for the future. Have you had an surgery?
I am a Christian and truly believe in the power of prayer, I have been lucky enough to have my faith since my early twenty's I am sure it will be a great help in the years to come. I am 63.
I had no idea how people suffered with this terrible pain until it found me. Makes me feel so sorry for all the people out there so much worse than myself. So young some of them too. Do you get support from your family? My daughter in law has joined the support area of the site, and I am very grateful.
Hope you have had a pan free day today. Just been out to a Buffett Chinese, don't think anyone notice how little I eat, even chewing is horid. kind regards. Lizzie
