Just wondering if anyone had tried or has been successful with getting on any type of disability? have your doctors been cooperative?
i love you all!
Hey Chrisa,
I’ve not tried, thankfully I’m in the fortunate position of still being able to continue working, but I imagine it would be pretty difficult to get over here, and knowing how hard it is for the TN guys to get any help I sure can’t imagine it being any easier for us unfortunatley.
Over here there are all sorts of criteria like needing help with mobility, and getting dressed and preparing ones own meals and stuff, which aren’t all necessarily relevant to this condition, at least not all the time. I don’t the know the intricacies of how things work stateside, but I know just how hard it can be, my friend Lily on the LWTN board is battling this at the moment, and has been declined and the letter they sent her as to what she could do was horrific ( she has a stimulator implanted) and the things they expect her to be able to do are well laughable.
I believe though it is very common to be declined at least once, sometimes twice for this kind of benefit over there, certainly for TN, and it may well be worth taking the whole thing to your senator if you are having difficulty, it’s one of those things where you need all the help you can get.
Much love

I was off work for 8 weeks and short term disability would not pay as of yet i am appealing but unsure of outcome… I went back to work only because of the pay… I do not believe that i am safe… but i triple check everything and write every moment down that i have completed to remind me if i have or have not completed the task… like i said I cut my meds in half and of course the pain has increased but i am hoping to find the right dosesthat i can function
Well, This is a subject that is constantly on my mind. I have been off work 3 months. My medical, vacation pay, and extended illness are gone. I am eligible for LTD on 11/11/10 and submitted the 20 page form Friday. My postion has been extended another 90 days, but frankly, I am not sure that I will ever be a trauma nurse again.
I am healing and doing very well, but I seem to have lost my professional “edge.” Maybe something less stimulating, methinks. I am blessed to be an RN and there will be another job for me when I am ready.I will let you know regarding the LTD but this isn’t through the state, it is through my hospital, so I believe I will receive it.
I was off for 4 months earlier this year and was denied short term after the first eight weeks, even thought my doctors all stated that there was no way they were letting me go back to work at that point. I ended up filing a complaint with my state bureau of finance and insurance and they did an investigation and the insurance company ended up paying me for all the time that I was off, but it took a long time for all of this to happen. So much for having insurance for when we need it and the company employees were just nasty. Good Luck and fight for what you think you are entitled to:)

I am an LPN and I am back working on the hospital floors, but I can tell a difference. I used to be able to 16hour shifts without a proble and now I can barely get threw an eight hour shift, and now I have to think a bit more about what I am doing, it is not as automatic as is used to be.

I’ve been on LTD for over a year. It didn’t seem to difficult to get approved, but by the time I applied I had already been to 3 ENT’s, a Neurologist and a Pain Management Specialist. I’m also in Canada which seems to make a difference.
