Disability

Does anyone get disability from TN?

Hi Kelly,
Your picture is fantastic, I thank you for that!
I have heard that it is quite difficult to receive disability for TN.
It pains me to answer your question, having read where you are in this ‘war’.
I receive SSDI, due to traumatic brain injury, caused from my 2nd stereotactic radio surgery, for treatment(s) of TN1.
Please remember, we are all different…my meds didn’t work so great either and some of them, literally, tried to kill me.
Take good care, bob

I do. I will send you a message when I get to my computer.

Oh Bob that sounds horrible nightmare - I am having all kinds of problems I have alot of other things too but this here is a killer!

I got disability - we filed based on pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia. (I also had complications from 2 MVD’s and a Gamma Knife Radiosurgery).

I am receiving Long Term Disablity from the private disability insurer that I had through the cafeteria plan that my job offered - you know, health+disability+AD&D+life, etc..... I literally cried when they called me to tell me that I had it for as long as I am sick. How grateful I am for having had worked at a large corporation at the time that I fell ill. And how grateful I am that the job I had before that was so miserable (and had such pitiful benefits) that it pushed me to find the corporate job. It's strange how fate pulls a person through life and gets them to where they need to be in time.

I now have my SSDI hearing set up for February. I have been turned down at both the initial application and the appeal. Praying for a miracle. I have TN2.

I wish you luck for whatever level you are currently fighting. It is my understanding that they have very strict requirements to qualify in the first two stages, but the judge has the power to award it outside of those guidelines.

Please let us know a little bit more of your story, if you don't mind.

hey guys i wish i can get Disability am so scared am going to be a work,

one day this monster attack going to bring me down to the ground i get so scared,

i really dont know what ,to do god bless !!!

I've talked with several patients who were ultimately successful in proving disability from TN or other forms of neuropathic face pain. If you'll send me a contact email via ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■, I'll forward your contact to a former disability counselor whom I know, who is likewise a face pain patient...

Regards and best,

Red

Jackie, can you give me a little more information on what you had to do! I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for sharing your story, Lily. I am thinking of starting the SS process but I have so many questions. Do you know if there is a place you can go get answers to questions? I would appreciate it!

Hi Mary,

Here's where you can apply online. I got stuck and eventually had to go into a Social Security office.

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pgm/disability.htm

I can't really recommend a lawyer, there are ceertainly things that I would change about my own, but I would recommend researching and finding one at an early stage of your application.

Here is a site that had some useful information - I did not select these people to recommend me - but there is lots of information there.

Good luck, let me know if I can help you anymore.

Thank you Lily! I am at my wit send!

Hi Mary,

I had really good documentation from my Doctors. I sent in every Doctor I had seen since I started this journey - 9 years worth! I was denied at my inital application, denied on my appeal and then hired a local attorney familiar with Social Security Disability cases. I was ineligible for SSI because my hub and I own our home and have other assets. So, for me, it was full disability or nothing.

I keep a pain journal. Right before my hearing, we sent the judge 80 pages of my journal - (one year's worth) - and it appeared that he read them all! It gave him a great snapshot of my life as it is now and I think it helped my case.

When we were gathering documents, I had them get my records from everyone - whether they were related or not - the dentists I had seen, the hearing people, the hospitals, the doctors, the sinus specialist - everyone! I think we sent it so much that it was undeniable that I had sought good medical care.

Also, while I was waiting for my hearing, I saw my Dr. every two to three months to show that I was keeping current with needing care.

Lastly, I had a couple of people that I worked with write letters on my behalf of how trigeminal changed me - who I was before as a friend and employee and who I am now. The differences they pointed out were things like dependability - before I was like clockwork, now they have to use a pencil for appointments because I might now show up due to pain. They pointed out my memory issues - before I knew every thing on my calendar - now, I can't remember what I did yesterday or even this morning. They pointed out that I isolate and I can't even read a story to my grandkids or give my friends and family a hug without pain. They said they were still my friends, but that trigeminal had really changed me.

I also had a letter from my last employer saying that I should "go home, get well and then consider coming back to work for him." I told the judge that offer stood today. He asked if it helped being at home and I replied no.

Hope this helps.

Jackie

Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it! You took a lot of time to write all that out for me.

Thanks again. Mary

I hope whatever info we can share with each other helps in this process. Some good has to come from it!

Thanks Jackie! You sound alot like me! Same story different people in diff states! My old boss told me if I missed another day of work due to illness I was fired -they ended up firing me anyway just to get me out of there cause I was sick and then my work got behind and so on and so forth. When I wrote on here I had not gotton any disability but I had been trying for two years. After I was denied and the hearing judge denied that we appealed it same as you. That claim is in the appeals now which has been about a year now. When the disability judge denied my claim my disability lawyer told me to go file a second claim at SS which I did so my second claim got aproved when I had my surgery. The first one hasn’t been resolved yet. I have alot of problems also sounds alot like you. Thanks for writing me I enjoyed hearing from you. Kelly

Thanks to all of you for your helpful information!

Did you go throug a lawyer? I had the same thing MVD and he wants to do Gamma. I am afraid.

I have TN and have been going through hell as it were. I had 3 different procedures, and although I am told i could possibly have another MVD, I don’t think I can go through that experience again as it left me with constant pain at my surgical area which goes to my mandibular branch in addition to the V1 branch. Currently, i am employing a disability law firm in the Albuquerque area, I just got turned down and working on the appeal. My lawyer’s office was recommending for me to think of various things that would help the quality of life (e.g. special ergonomic chair since i have osteoarthritis) or devices or services that could help me but I don’t because of the finance factor. The purpose for this is to help reduce the income I receive from my employer as I work from home as an accommodation. I may report 6-8 hours a day, however, i need to take rest breaks after a couple of hours due to stress and pain. And so an 8-hour day translates into at least a 12 hour time span if i can work through it at all. Does anyone have any ideas? I know we all suffer in various degrees and ways, and God doesn’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bare. But I do hope that relief will come.
