For those with no insurance: Cost of carbamezapine skyrocketing!

Hi guys,

I don't have insurance right now, so I've been paying for meds myself. First of all, using independent pharmacy (as opposed to CVS, etc.) drastically reduce the cost of my meds -- from about $245/mo to $45/mo. !!!! I also take gabapentin and amitriptaline. It's been a lifesaver.

But, when I went in for refills last week, they told me that for some unknown reason, the price of carbamezapine alone will be about $160 next month unless they can find another supplier.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

p.s. I have probably mis-spelled the meds, but I'm sitting very still right now in an attempt to prevent pain. I'm sure you can relate. :)

If you have a Costco near you, you might want to check their prices. You do not need to join to purchase prescriptions. Sam's might be the same, I don't know.

My prescription for Tegretol used to be filled with the generic Carbamazipine. This was at CVS. When I moved all of my prescriptions to Walmat, they started filling it with Epitol which is another generic version. Works the same as far as I can tell. I think it might be on their $4.00 drug list.

Thanks for all the suggestions! My regular independent pharmacy is still reporting the outrageous prices for Carbamezapine. Thankfully, Walmart has it for $10/month. However, Walmart is $124/month for Gabapentin, while my regular pharmacy has it for $28. So thankful to have found a solution!

Try the 100 mg chewable tabs. Very affordable. How much of the carbamezapine do you take. Also try Target, Walgreen and even Walmart. Shop around. Research any coupons or help from outside sources.

Hi Lou, I would like to have some of my carba RX in the chewables, but the majority in the higher dose pill form. Going to ask my doc to write it that way. Between Walmart and my neighborhood independent pharmacy, the total cost is back to what I was paying before... around $45/month. That's doable!
