I had MVD surgery a few days ago (June16th) and I’m doing pretty good! I am not having TN pain, just pain from the incision and from the harness that was screwed onto my head to keep it from moving during the operation. The only thing I’m worried about is the persistent double-vision. The surgeon said it would go away, but he didn’t give any indication of when my vision would go back to normal. He said it’s caused by swelling around the optic nerve. It is hard to walk when I see 2 of everything! I was wondering if anyone else here had this problem after MVD surgery, and if so, how long did it last? Patience is not one of my virtues!
Hi Suzanne! Congrats on being up, about and sounding so chipper after your MVD. You said it all about patience…It’s like saying ‘Serenity, NOW!’ The incision should itch and such for awhile. The halo should be sore. Dbl vision, etc; well Suzanne I’m not a doctor and you didn’t get a cut on your head. You had brain surgery! Keep sharing and hang in there. My best to you, bob : )
Hi Suzanne…its good to see that you are up and moving around…don’t worry about seeing double…I bet you will be back to normal vision in a few days or so…from what I have read this is quite normal after MVD surgery. Hang in there kid…
I had my MVD surgery on June 25 and had similar double vision issues. My double vision started on the 27th and was gone by the 30th. I found that it was worse when looking at far-away objects, so I often looked at close objects like books or a computer screen. At first I found the double objects to be disorienting, and almost got motion sick a few times, then I decided to just sit back and not let it bother me. My wife drove me home, a 3 hour drive, and I rather enjoyed watching trucks driving through cars, entrance and exit ramp traffic crossing into the on-coming lanes, etc. When I didn’t want to see double, I used an eye patch (pirate type) from the drug store to shield one eye and prevent the double vision (under $3.00). I switched the eye I was shielding from time to time. My double vision lasted only a couple of days, and now I am ready for Halloween, “Arrrr”.
Hi Scott…Thanks for posting your experience with MVD surgery…I am scheduled for an MVD July 23…but my two daughters are insisting I try acupuncture between now and then …so tomorrow I will have my first run at that as I have read that this has worked for some…Im happy to hear you are pain free and that your vision as improved…a little double vision might just help my golf game…

I had double vision for about 2 months after my MVD. I still have it to a certain extent but no longer need to wear prism glasses. I believe that i am on the mend and things will only get better. I have to say that it scared me when I read that others recovered so quickly as I was not. Patience was my lesson on this whole thing.
