Hi All - I was hit but a very drunk driver last June, which totaled my car and now, about 6 months later, I've been diagnosed with TN. I walked away from the accident, had my head checked for concussion (it was fine), and had several massages to work on my upper back, neck, etc. It seemed to relieve all my soreness from the accident with the massages and just time passing. Is it possible that now, 6 months later, my TN is a result of this accident? Has anyone else had this experience?
I am considering contacting a lawyer that a friend referred me too. The man that hit me was double the legal limit and also left the scene of the accident. He got his hand slapped with a year probably and 90-day license suspension. I'm not the lawsuit type and I'm really not up to the aggravation at this time but if he might be responsible for this pain I'm in that has basically altered the path of my life, I feel like I should. Plus, I can already see that the financial costs of all of this will be enormous.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me or similar experiences you can share!
Whiplash is one little known cause of TN -- but you cannot prove it..... you must move forward and not look back at the "why/how" You need allllll your energies on learning about your best treatments..... I was given whiplash by an oral surgeon while I was knocked out -- it took me a long time to focus on the future and not being the victim. It's in baby steps.
I had surgery and TN is gone for now.... might come back in 10 years -- but you must know that it can go into remission but it is always there.
Read and learn all you can on treatments because it is progressive -- keep posting!!!
I developed facial oral pain yrs ago, in my early 20's. history of neck pain! ..previous to that had been in two major road accidents.. a car I was in rolled 4 times. I was only 14 yrs at the time.. and was not wering a seat belt. I lost conciousness and when came too, was hanging from my neck/jaw. The window sliped down when car was rolling and my head was forced through, with window closing again. I was on left side of car, and the car can to a stop on its right side down!. Had treatment for damage to verterbae.
I often wondered about a link, between my oral facial stuff and neck/ jaw injury from car accident, but concerns ignored.
As the years went by.. I began getting oh its just a sprained neck when I felt it there,
Just recently a doctor requested a cervical spine xray, due to problems more obvious in my arm, and now they have found a narrowing of disc space, in my cervical spine.. STENOSIS!. . I are now off soon for a MRI on neck. up until now... they have concenrated only on the oral facial areas with imaging.
The nerve that feeds my arm has been playing up with pain, pins and needles, burning.. all like what I have had orally and facially in and around my lower jaw. I have also had shoulder blade pain, all referred pain problems, that come from the NECK.. cervical spine.
I have mean while, had my lower jaw explored by an oral surgeon. been to dentist, infection specialist, pain specialist, neurologist, alternatives, cardiologists... now at the door of a bone specialist! There could well be a connection too with you. All the best in your searching for the right type of help, all in hope for a healing. cheers from Sandie in NZ.

My TN was likely caused by trauma to my face done years ago while I was in an abusive relationship. At least that is what the specialist told me.
I am an attorney. Part of my practice focus' on personal injury (specifically car accidents). I would DEFINITELY contact a personal injury attorney -- one that has significant experience. The question is this: was your face hit? Do you have any prior injuries to that side of the face? Any root canals or significant dental procedures done? Further, have you seen any specialists -- and do they concur that it could be a direct result of trauma resulting from that accident. That's what you need to tie together. You suffered trauma, there was no pre-existing injury, and as a direct result of the accident, you are injured.
PS: I am NOT soliciting business :) What I am doing is encouraging you to look a pursuing legal advice to make sure that you can have all your rights and remedies preserved and protected. In most states, you only have so long to file a personal injury suit. The clock is ticking at this point, and it may take some time for medical professionals to concur that the accident could be the cause. All you need is "more probable than not".......
I supposed I should have prefaced my earlier post with the fact that I have had at LEAST 6 rear-ended car wrecks where somebody hit me from the back, I braced for it and got whiplash. So oral surgeon wasn't first one to give it to me. I also now have many many uppercervical things deteriorating in my upper neck.
