Hi all, just wondering if it’s just a coincidence or would having a cold be making my attacks worse? I’ve had the mvd late last year and just tried going off lyrica last month, since stopping meds I’m having more attacks than ever!! Feeling a bit like I just cannot win tonight, after picking up a cold yesterday and today the attacks are just unmanageable!
I've heard from plenty of patients who believe their pain is sometimes triggered by cold, sinus problems, or allergy -- or by medications used to treat the symptoms of such disorders. I am uncertain of the specific medical mechanism involved, but additional pressure on the nerve endings due to allergic inflammation or vaso dilation in surrounding tissues is at least a plausible explanation. I think that anyone dealing with such connections would probably want to consult with their neurologist or with a well trained specialist in internal medicine, to be advised on the most effective medication regime for temporary relief of cold symptoms without adding to the nerve pain.
Regards, Red
Hi Aminda,
I’ve had a cold for the past week and a half and my pain increased tremendously, I wasn’t sure if it was to do with my cold or whether the meds were no longer working as they should. From Reds reply I feel a little more relieved that it was probably my cold so I am thankful to you for starting this discussion. It’s such an awful, debilitating illness in itself and what makes it worse is when we do suffer with other illnesses such as colds it appears hard to separate the effects of one illness from the other.
Hope you are feeling a little better and that you are not alone in not always knowing which is purely TN pain or pain made worse by other ailments, I guess this is something that we are all trying to work out at various times. X
