Is this just a coincidence?

It has been several weeks that I have been struggling with severe TN pain. During this painful journey I caught a bad cold. To tell the truth, I could not feel the cold aches because of the severe TN pain. Well, my colds always turn into really bad sinus infections. My primary prescribed as always the steroid pack. The sinus infection is clearing up and the TN pain is at a minimum. Is it just ironic that my TN pain is less on its own or because of the steroids pack?

No, it is due to the steroids. Steriods is the best medicine for TN but unfortunately, we are only suppose take take steroids twice a year. Steroids can have a bad side effect if you take to often. It brings any inflammation down in your body. Enjoy it while you can!!!

Its funny, I have the opposite with the steriods, I get more pain...or got more pain before the MVD.

Be careful taking them alot, I get tons of sinus infections and have an autoimmune disorder that I have been taking them for, and they can cause a lot of other damage, like bone density etc.

If they are helping with the pain now, they should help even for a few weeks after taking them, so you should get a breather from the pain for a while, which is good!

Well the steroids helped great for th Sinus Infection...but TN pain free was short lived. :(

My sinus infections or just plan stuffiness always on my left side. When I do get what I think is a sinus infection and sometimes I do. Its the V2 branch of the trigeminal nerve that affects this area and always is a severe problem for me. I thought for many decades it was my sinuses, but it was compression of the nerve in my head that corresponds to that area of my face. I have forced hot air so I always have a humidifer at my bed side. Even after MVD my surgeon kept me on antihistamine(sudaphedrine) it helps alot. So there is and seems to be a correlation between Tn and your sinuses hope that helps

I’ve noticed an increase in pain now during allergy season, so I wonder if swelling sinuses increase pressure on nerves. Duh, of course it would. So I think it could be related. Hope you have a pain free day.

I have had issues with sinuses all my life. They became extremely worse when I moved south. Of course having no idea of TN until now, I can remember episodes of sinus infections that left my face sensitive extremely painful. I put it on some powerful mucus. When I met with my Neurologist this week (1st time in 6 years), he mentioned there could have been prior signs. The weather here is Alabama has been crazy and I have been increasing my vitamin C to prevent another cold. I have a follow up with my primary and will talk to her about Sinus/Allergies.

Thanks

This time of year I get bad sinus infections which cause tn flare ups. Even runny nose from allergies cause problems, have to push kleenex up nose because cant blow nose. I have started taking allergy shots and taking Allegra and singulair to try to prevent any sinus infections or colds.

I hear you on the allergies and sinuses. I am on allergy medication. I never went for the allergy testing. I am thinking about getting one of those Neti Pots. Sinus infection and TN pain is unreal. I feel much better now that the sinus infection is gone.

I have used a neti pot since before my TN. I love it, however, now I can only use it when I have not had any flare ups or pain in a while. It can cause A LOT of pain if I’m already having a difficult time. By the way, I suggest getting the squeeze bottle kind instead of the actual pot kind because the pouring/dropping kind goes slow especially if you have a deviated septum, but the other you squeeze it and it goes through like a river and is over quick
