I had a Dr tell me she went to a recent conference and the speaker recommended using a fan directed on the face. This seems contradicting to what i have read about people having pain with breezes. Anybody have any experience with this?
Anybody have any experience using chlonidine/cataprese for nerve pain?
I’ve tried this once or twice before. It was one of the suggests that OHSU gave me. You don’t blast the fan. But set it at a low level and are about 10 feet away from it. My experience was it numb my face a bit. When I did do this it was at night when I went to bed, it helped me a few nights when I was not really sleeping I would wake up every 10 minutes from pain. Using the fan got me to sleep for a couple of hours. Finally one night it just set the pain off, with me down on my knees crying. So I have not tried it again after that. Also I was desperate for sleep at that point I would have danced around in circle if told it would let me sleep for few hours. All I can say is this you can also try it to see if it helps the pain, BUT be aware this is iffy and might cause pain as well. You never know what might help.
Me too. I can't even have my car's vent pointed at my face, cold or warm. Makes my stomach clench just thinking about it. Who would think, "Hey this disorder can be triggered by breezes, let's see what's happen when we direct a low spinning fan at them." Eep!

just the thought of a fan on my face freaks me out...for me...no way
Oh boy! If I took this advice I would be horizontal forever. The slightest breeze on my face sends me scurrying for the meds. I dare not go out in the wind unless wrapped up like a mummy. Something not right here, with that advice.
My pain in strange, in that cold or wind does not aggravate it. I use a fan, and while it does have a slight numbing effect, to me the biggest benefit is the small breeze dancing across the face in a way distracts from the pain.
I work in an office, and I don’t think i could get through the day without the fan. Right now it’s blowing on my face and helps a ton to distract. I hate going to meetings or away from my desk. If your pain is not aggravated by wind I very much suggest trying it.
Hmmm. I have a bedroom fan going all year long for the white noise. In the wintertime I just turn it away from me. :) I do know that passing by it when I'm walking through the room is pretty terrible now.
