... how on earth I can be sooo stupid to rub Japanese Mint Oil on my forehead which burns like hell??? I did not even think about what could happen. I am going through flu-like withdrawal sympthoms because I stopped Cymbalta and I thought the oil would be a relief. Now I am here with flu-sympthoms, stomach cramps AND the ATN pain which has now exploded because of the mint oil.
Apologies for this not very helpful discussion but I am having a really bad day and the stupid oil just was the straw that broke the camels back.
EEk! You're not stupid at all.Just desperate.I know the feeling.Should you cold turkey like that?Maybe you should go half dose?Sorry,it will get better.Hang in there.Don
I too have tried "creative" solutions to varying TN pain problems. One time I tried muscle rub because I thought the warmth might help. Mistake! Also I have to be careful with some aromatherapy especially I tried some clove oil and ceder oils and the stimulating smells really drove the TN crazy. I think I learned to try one new thing at a time and to go slow when trying a new fix. I think overall trying new things is good for us but we do have to go carefully into new frontiers. I think our health care providers really do us a disservice when they don't tell us the various difficulties of getting off the new prescription. I mean my GP prescribed Cymbalta without talking about getting off of it. Fortunately just taking 30mg. Thanks for the post!
I agree with Don...you're not stupid, just desperate for some relief. *hugs*
I've tried lots of ..uhm...unsuccessful things in my search for relief. *laughs*
At least the burning of oil got your attention for a couple seconds, eh? A couple seconds not thinking about TN, maybe? lol sorry, trying to give it a positive spin.
I also agree with Don and KC about quiting cymbalta cold turkey....surely you can ask your GP for some assistance and/or advice on how best to handle it. There's no point in suffering if you don't have to.
About the Cymbalta: I am not going cold turkey - i reduced from 60mg to 30mg and then stopped. However Cymbalta just has a lot of effect on me. It worked very very well for the pain (waking up without pain in the morning!) but the side effects were so strong I had to stop which was a difficult decision because the pain returned immediatelly. So the withdrawal symptoms really came as no suprise. I am a bit better now - even tried a bit of Yoga today...
To use any essential oil - mix a very small amount with some olive oil and massage into your face. I do this all the time and it works. I use peppermint and lavender oils. My mother is an aromatherapist - it really does help with my pain and relaxation. Congrats on getting off the cymbalta! Try using the
