Hey folks! Just wanted to share about some success I've had using essential oils for TN attacks. I've had atypical TN for almost a year now. My flair ups consist mostly of a burning, achy kind of pain on one side of my head and face. Have taken Tegretol and Norco for pain. Tegretol was making me feel very foggy mentally and I don't want to get hooked on pain meds so I've been looking for any alternatives. A friend suggested trying essential oils. At this point I'm just about willing to try anything to help with the pain. I've been using the oil for about two weeks now and so far I've had a good bit of success with peppermint oil for pain. When I feel a flair up coming I rub a few drops of peppermint essential oil behind ear, along my hair line on affected side and on back of neck. So far this has worked very well to help control the pain! Sometimes the pain stops completely!! Other times it is minimized enough so that I can tolerate it and not have to take a pain pill. Have completely stopped Tegretol and have not noticed an increase in flair ups. Will keep posting with progress reports to see how it works in the longer term.
Yes! So far so good! My pain varies some but is mostly on the side of my head, above my ear and into my cheek and sometimes my teeth (all on one side). It is the burning, aching kind of pain mostly but sometimes there are the electric shock pains. I also started using an essential oil called Progessense Plus. I've been using that for about two weeks. It is supposed to help with low progesterone levels that can causes all sorts of issues like PMS, migraines, fibromyalgia, depression, endometriosis, etc. Since I've been using that I've actually only had a couple of flare ups and the peppermint essential oil has pretty much stopped the pain within a few minutes. Don't know if it is just a fluke or if the oils are really working but I'm very happy that something is working! I get my oils from a company called Young Living. Think there are some other companies that make essential oils but this one was the one recommended to me by a friend so I started there. Hope this helps! :)
Yes, I'm using the essential oils from a company called Young Living. Have a friend who recommended it so that's where I started. I was very skeptical at first about essential oils but my friend has had a lot of success using essential oils for her daughter's ADHD and other issues so they seem to be legit! Hope this helps :)

Thank you for this post! How exciting!
Are there particular brand (s) you are using?
I am going to the health food store tomorrow and will buy some.
Please post any additional info or experiences and if anyone else has had experience with this PLEASE post as well.
Peppermint oil works for me also, make sure you get a good oil. young life is one of about four companies that sell the good oil. there is other oils that can help along with mixtures of oil also. please research and don't overuse.
I too have utilizes essential oils they can be very helpful. I have also found a few drops of Frankensence and lemongrass under the tongue very helpful.
Imy TN1/TN2 is due to a gunshot would 10yrs ago so may be different but its pretty severe and the other thi g too is aromatherapy and aroma touch therapy both have helped me quite a bit.
My TN1/TN2 are pretty severe I have not been able to utilize any of the ceazy meds my b I dy jyst cant tolerate them. Since my TN was caused by a gunshot injury 10yrs ago...ive tried it all except procedures.
The doterra essential oils have helped I use Frankensence and lemongrass under my tongue 3xs per day
as well as rubbing pepermint wild orange and Frankensence around my temple behind my ear etc. I also have aroma touch theraoy its wonderful
The other thing that has helped me is medicinal canibis... im able yto function during the day when pain is less inrense without being medicated at all then in evening when paun grows more intense a smoke the canibis it is very effective immediately and when I wake I am clear and able to function. Other meds need to lb be taken all the time and left me unable to function.
I understand nit everyone will agree but this works very well for me.
Doterra is one x the four good company’s for top quality oil. It is also the brand I use. Frankensince (spelling?) did not help me in any way. Everyone is different in what works or not. Also it is usually recommended to dilute most oils in a carrier oil such as coconut oil.
They are making cannabis oil that you can put under your tongue, or in capsule form or you can rub the oil on if you don’t want to smoke it, also there are different strains to help in different ways so I would suggest research. I am glad to hear you are getting relief with alternative methods. I hope you and everyone else a better day then yesterday as well as rubbing pepermint wild orange and Frankensence around my temple behind my ear etc. I also have aroma touch therapy its wonderful calijewel said:

Great to hear you’ve found something that works for you. I was wondering if the oil helped to reduce the burning? I have intense burning on my forehead and cheeks thankfully my medication helps a lot but just interested if you have managed the burning without meds? Thanks!
Yes, so far the peppermint oil has helped a lot with the burning. The oil produces a cooling sensation that really helps with both the achy pain and the burning for me. The oil I use is very concentrated so it only takes a drop or two. I was very skeptical of using the peppermint oil at first but it is really helping! I'm going to research into the essential oils a little more and see if there might be others that can help with nerve pain. I'll keep posting if I find something else that works too.
Peace and healing to all!

I am very happy to hear all of you doing good with the oils. My niece sells the Young Living Oils and says that people are having great results with them. She also tells me of all the other uses of the oils. I am getting ready to start using them from her but had to get some other medical problems straight first. Please keep posting how everyone is doing.
I've just been putting the oil along my jawline and check bone on the affected side when the pain flairs up. My TN pain seems to be more of a jaw pain rather than actual tooth pain. I have another oil blend called Thieves from Young Living that has clove and cinnamon oil in it. This has worked wonderful for a sensitive tooth that I have but I've never tried it for the TN type of tooth pain. I'll have to give that a try and let you know how it works. Take Care! Robbie

Hi Robbie,
When you have tooth pain do you put a drop of peppermint oil directly on the tooth?
