Botox?

I recently had a botox injection on Wed. My pain is not completely gone. I suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia, migraines, and headaches. I wake up every day with TN pain and headaches. Each day the pain is less severe since the injection. Has anyone else gotten botox? If so how long does it take before it fully works? I was hoping that it would be fully working by now.

This is good to know because so far I have not had a lot of relief and it has been 5 days. The doctor who does it treats migraine and trigeminal neuralgia patitients.

Stephanie has had great successes with botox, she is the only one that I know that has had it and it has worked brilliantly for her, my pain specialist suggested it to me, but I think due to the location of my pain it would be very hit or miss, If I was still suffering with ATN pain I would have been more inclined to go with it, but my neurologist told me to wait off on doing that, now I am just waiting to see the neurosurgeon and I will take it from there. But I am glad to hear you are having success and hope it continues to work for your pain control.x x x

Hi Lena - I’m new on here also and have either TNP or Atypical Facial Pain after dental work 1 1/2 years ago. Every day since then has been constant burning, aching shooting pain above the upper molar that was worked on. Did your dr. give you the botox for constant pain or classic TN? I hope you are having a better day - this is awful for all of us on here but I’m sure glad I found this site. I don’t think what I have is a candidate for any type of surgery.

The injection was for migraines and atypical TN. I only tried it the one time.

Hi Lena - Trying to figure this site out - I’m not thinking very clearly anymore so excuse me if I repeat a question to you? Botoz not worth trying again? That’s a bummer - I was hoping I could try it - going to a new neurosurgeon in Miami on Thurs. and hope to finally be properly diagnosed and find out my options. I also had migraines from the age of 18 until right before all this happened last May 2009 (I’m 44). I don’t have headaches anymore - it’s really weird but I also stopped taking any tylenol or advil recently. I used to take 4-6 of them a day for years and I know I was getting rebound headaches. I haven’t had one since then and I had a dull to throbing headache pretty much everyday for years. How are you doing? Any other things you’ve done for ATN relief? I’m taking nortriptaline 50 mg for the past 6 days - hoping it will help. Hope you’re having a good day - I appreciate all of you on here.

I am still having pain but it is a little better. I use a heating pad sometimes. If my pain is really bad I stay away from the computer and any other stimulation. I feel like this makes me worse. Right now I am on carbatrol and gabapentin and carbmazapine for breakthrough pain. I am hoping they will add something else to help with my pain. It is such a crappy disease and people have a hard time understanding it. Chronic pain is so hard to deal with. Botox might work for you I just remember that it didn’t work that well for me.
