i have heard that botox can be great for TN pain and for migraines aswell. this makes sense to me and im considering this as an option, it certainly would be healthier than medication plus no side effects... has anyone else tried this?

I have had the botox for migraines. I t works best when used every 3 months. they place the injections around the base of the neck and certain places along your hairline on the front and forhead. It does not eliminate the pain, but, it does lesson the frequency and duration of the TN V1 pain and migraines..It does reduce the amount of migraine meds (Relpax) that I use and also reduces the amount of breakthrough oxycontin that is needed fot TN2 pain.I still take 1600 miligrams of gabapentin 4 times each day and 50mg of vimpat twice a day. I hope any of this info is helpful SuzyQ...Take Care and God Bless
aw thats great thankyou, i didnt know they could do it on ur neck! :) im assuming it wasnt a regular beautician that did that for you? definately going to have it done, mine isnt as bad as yours but a reduction of medication would be really good, thankyoux:)

SuziQ...I see a neurologist regularly for most of my oral meds. I have been seen every 4 weeks by Pain Management doctors or anesthesiologist. they are the ones that have done the injections of botox for migraines and neuralgias. It is most effective if done every 3 months. I just had my 2nd series of injections. they put a very small amount along certain places at the base of the skull(back of the neck) and where ever else they think will work for you. It is very specific and personalized. I hope that you can get some relief. I would only see a medical professional though. I also went through a series of botox injections every 3 months back in 2006 which was very helpful. Take Care and God Bless.

Hi Suzy,
I live in Canada. My TN started in March 2007 and it took almost two years to diagnose. I took out one Wisdom tooth, another was RootCanaled and another Crowned, against the wishes of my dentist. I was scheduled for MVD surgery many times but I backed out all the time.
Recently, I came into contact with a friend who has the TN for a long time and she took the Glycerol Injection about 5 years back and she is pain free now. It inspired me to meet the same Nurosurgeon in Washington in April 2012 but the cost of the treatment was about $11,000. But I found the same treatment in India, costing only $300 and went to Delhi last month. The doctor had to do the procedure twice and it took about 48 hours after the second injection before the pain went off completely. It is about 20 minutes procedure in the operation Theatre.
I sleep so well nowdays and totally pain free for over one month now. I would recommend and suggest to explore this option before going for MVD surgery.
Side Effect:- There will be some Numbness on the face which will go away eventually in 5-6 months.
Regards,
Rajiv
