Hope it is ok to have 2 discussions at same time. I guess I am one of the lucky ones as far as being diagnosed as I was already a patient of a ENT. When I called his office and described my symptoms he set up appointment with Neuro. After the Neuro visit he told me to go online and read up on TN, which I have been. After 5 months I was about to start meds but felt pain not so bad at this time and decided to try acupuncture. So far so good some days no pain at all and the pain I have minimal but annoying. Has anyone had luck with acupuncture. I must add that the acupuncturist I go to has had many patients with TN.
Scared,
I,m not a TN patient, but am interested in acupuncture, where do they actually place the needles?
I'm glad you feel it has helped.
Of course it's fine to have two conversations going at once! You're allowed as many discussions as you have questions. :-)

Scared -- have you tried a search on "acupuncture" in the search window at top right? You'll get postings from several years that include that term, both questions and responses.

I tried it a couple of times. The needles caused a flare up of the pain which lasted a few hours. My orofacial pain doctor recommended against going again.
I only started going in December 2X a week, now down to 1 time. When I went this Wednesday my lip was hurting. After she placed needles in lip area it stopped. Also during this visit I had a strange sensation happen. First one needle by my ear would tingle next one on my hand and than one on my ankle. That continued hour I had them in and my lip and tongue felt fine. I am hoping this will help as I, as most of us, do not do well on any type of meds.

I’ve been using acupuncture for about 4 months. I was in remission for a while but I’m now back out. What I have noticed is that my many, many hot flashes have all but disappeared, and my stress level is lower. It’s hard to say if it’s helping the TN, because who knows what it would be like on any given day without it.
I find that I’m much more aware of my body as a whole, being in an alternative therapy environment. I’ve started thinking I have leaky gut syndrome, so I’ve begun an anti-inflammatory diet. My hope is that a holistic approach, including acupuncture, diet changes, stress management, and even bite changes (got myself a night guard) will all help to make my good days more frequent, my remissions longer, and my bad days milder.
I changed my diet Jan. 2015 due to allergies to eggs and yeast. Very low carb and most of the times no carbs, nothing with sugar. I started going to nutritionists as well. Also walk when not too cold and windy.
