Acupuncture

Hi Friends, I’m still afraid to say anything because I’m so afraid the pain may come back. It’s almost
too much to comprehend that my pain is all but gone. Some small shocks in my nose but no other
pain for three weeks now. No tegretol or any other pain medicine. My doctor says this is a permanent
cure but I’m still skeptical. At least for now I’ve had relief, I know stress is a bad thing for TN and I’m
really putting it to the test. My dear husband has been in the hospital on life support for over two weeks,
so if I can get through this with no pain I consider it a miracle. My doctor is a Chinese Dr. trained in
China and I recommend if you are going to try acupuncture seek out a Chinese Dr. I’ll keep you posted
on long term results. By the way I’m still taking treatments and hoping to even eliminate the nose pain,
is this too much to ask for???

Hi Carolyn,
I am glad your pain has been relieved. But I am sorry your husband is ill. I wish you the best. I know it has to be very tough. Please keep us posted. And you are in my prayers.
Liz

Hi Carolyn,

I’m glad to hear that you are pain free! I’m wondering how long you have been doing the accupunture for? I have just been diagnosed and am wondering if there are any alternative treatments besides drugs or surgery. I hope your husband is doing better…

-Ingrid

Hi James, I have two sessions a week, and I’m still pain free. I’m still skeptical about the permanent cure because
once you have TN you are always afraid the pain will come back. I doubt there is anything new about my treatment,
just persistance. Now I must face this alone, my dear husband passed away july 4th. I am so grateful to have been pain free during all that has been going on for the last few weeks. Will post comments from time to time to let
you know about the longevity of the treatments. Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,
I’m so sorry about the passing of your husband. Had he been ill for a long time? I’m sorry. It’s good though that you were able to spend those last days with him without the TN pain. That is a blessing. I hope you will continue to be free of TN pain while you heal emotionally. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Jamie

Carolyn,
I am sorry for the loss of your husband. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you well because I know it must be hard to face his loss and the TN. But maybe the TN pain is gone for good. I do hope so.
Liz

Hi Carolyn,

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. Wishing you all the best. I hope you continue to be pain free. Please let us know how you are doing.

I am happy to hear it has helped some. I was doing acu for a while, but didn’t get steady relief…my dr had trained all over the world so I dont doubt it wa him, but just my body! I hope your husband gains strength!

Hi Carolyn, I did my first acupuncture today…never had it done before…I am going in again on Wednesday…I am scheduled for MVD surgery this Friday…but I may postpone for a few weeks and give this a try…the acupuncturist is a Chinese lady trained in China and is familiar with TN…after my first treatment I feel sort of dreamy and floaty…like I have been on vacation for a week…that cant be all bad…I will keep you posted…

Hi Vic, I am so glad you decided to try the acupuncture, it’s so much more fun than surgery. I am still pain free
except for an occasional tingle in my nose which I can easily deal with, can’t even call it pain compared with what I had. I’m also glad you were able to locate a Chinese dr. I think it makes all the difference. I will pray that
the treatments are successful and that you won’t even need the MVD. Carolyn

Hello I had a question about the acuptuncture. Hope this doesn’t sound stupid. Do the needles actually go into your face or do they put them somewhere else (like your back or something). I think I would be afraid of having needles put into my face in the event that it might trigger a flare up. But I definately interested in learning more about this.

Hi Ingrid, thats a good question…yesterday during my first acupuncture she wanted to put a pin in my chin and near the left side of my mouth…both extremely sensitive trigger points that can set off terrible pain bouts for me…I would not allow her to put the pins there…so she suggested that I become accustomed to this procedure first and when I became more confident she would put the pins in those places…She put pins in various areas and one pin on my forehead and one behind my ear, just about where I think I would be drilled in MVD surgery…no pain fired off…later on she put electrodes on these two pins and they pulsated for awhile…today I have had one 200 mg of tegretol but no pain bouts to speak of…but I have been having a good week anyway. 200 mgs of Tegretol is a small dosage for me…tomorrow I am contacting my surgeon and delaying the surgery until I see what if any success happens…Carolyn seems to have beat this stuff with acupuncture…I might get lucky…I can always go in and have them drill my skull…as long as the pain level is manageable like it is right now for me Im
gonna give it a go…

Hi Vic,

Thanks for your answer. I hope you have good luck with the acupuncture. I would agree that you should definately try this first and see if it works before you go for the MVD. I think I will try to look into this. I guess the trick is trying to find the right person to do it. Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing.

How do you go about finding someone highly qualified from China to do this? I am also interested. I’ve been going to a chiropractor who practices chinese medicine. She works with the pressure points but doesn’t use needles. I had the feeling that Vic had where you feel relaxed and at peace, as if you just took a relaxing vacation. I’ve tried googling for information but haven’t found someone who is Chinese. Any thoughts?
Vic, I’m so glad you are finding some relief for this. As Carolyn said, “it’s much more fun than surgery”. haha
Best of luck to you:) I’m in Ohio, btw.

I always do research when I have some free time at work… I found some other thing called accupressure which I think is similar to accupuncture but withhout needles. Its some type of massage I think. Just wanted to put that out here. Hope everyone is doing well today!

Hi Ingrid…My two daughters searched quite a bit to find a acupuncturist trained in China in the “old method”.
I have had two sessions this week and will continue for awhile to see what happens…I postponed my MVD surgery to try it…in fact I would be under the drill at this moment if I had not…My surgeon is a real pro too…I think he is the best neurosurgeon in the San Diego area…he has been around for years and has a fine reputation…but…I still want to try everything I can before I undergo the drill…so far I have not felt real pain relief…after two sessions…but afterwards I feel like I have been on vacation for a week…you know that relaxed dont give a darn feeling?..and thats kind of nice…I will keep everyone posted…Vic

Hi Vic,

I hope this works for you! Definately worth trying before going under the knife. Maybe it will take a few sessions to really provide relief. At least your feeling more relaxed and that is good thing. Good luck with this! Let us know how you are doing!
