Acupuncture

Thank you Jamie for your kind words, it’s been really difficult because he was my greatest support for the TN.
Check the discussion page for an update on my acupuncture treatments.

Dear Carolyn,
I’m so sorry about the passing of your husband. Had he been ill for a long time? I’m sorry. It’s good though that you were able to spend those last days with him without the TN pain. That is a blessing. I hope you will continue to be free of TN pain while you heal emotionally. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Jamie

Hi Ingrid, Yes in fact the needles do go in your face and many other places but don’t let that scare you off
because it is not painful especially compared to the TN pain. It’s a very relaxing procedure, in fact I think now I may be addicted to acupuncture. If you are still interested try to find a Chinese dr. with lots of experience.
If I can be of more help let me know. Have a good day. Carolyn

Hi Vic, I am so glad you decided to try the acupuncture, it’s so much more fun than surgery. I am still pain free
except for an occasional tingle in my nose which I can easily deal with, can’t even call it pain compared with what I had. I’m also glad you were able to locate a Chinese dr. I think it makes all the difference. I will pray that
the treatments are successful and that you won’t even need the MVD. Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, I did my first acupuncture today…never had it done before…I am going in again on Wednesday…I am scheduled for MVD surgery this Friday…but I may postpone for a few weeks and give this a try…the acupuncturist is a Chinese lady trained in China and is familiar with TN…after my first treatment I feel sort of dreamy and floaty…like I have been on vacation for a week…that cant be all bad…I will keep you posted…

Hello I had a question about the acuptuncture. Hope this doesn't sound stupid. Do the needles actually go into your face or do they put them somewhere else (like your back or something). I think I would be afraid of having needles put into my face in the event that it might trigger a flare up. But I definately interested in learning more about this.

Hi Vic,
How are you feeling? Do you think the acupuncture is helping you?
Liz

Hi Ingrid, thats a good question…yesterday during my first acupuncture she wanted to put a pin in my chin and near the left side of my mouth…both extremely sensitive trigger points that can set off terrible pain bouts for me…I would not allow her to put the pins there…so she suggested that I become accustomed to this procedure first and when I became more confident she would put the pins in those places…She put pins in various areas and one pin on my forehead and one behind my ear, just about where I think I would be drilled in MVD surgery…no pain fired off…later on she put electrodes on these two pins and they pulsated for awhile…today I have had one 200 mg of tegretol but no pain bouts to speak of…but I have been having a good week anyway. 200 mgs of Tegretol is a small dosage for me…tomorrow I am contacting my surgeon and delaying the surgery until I see what if any success happens…Carolyn seems to have beat this stuff with acupuncture…I might get lucky…I can always go in and have them drill my skull…as long as the pain level is manageable like it is right now for me Im gonna give it a go…

Hi Liz…I getting by o.k. right now and I hope you are too…I have been to acupuncture 3 times so far…each time the acupuncturist (Chinese Trained from China) puts pins and electrodes a little closer to my TN trigger points…so far so good and pain has not been triggered…but honestly I have not noticed any improvement so far…I still need to take my doses of Tegretol to get through the day…I will keep at it and give it a good try…the one good thing about it is afterwards I have that feeling you get after a week or so of vacation time…that dont give a darn relaxed attitude…and its much cheaper then a weeks vacation…If I learned anything at all so far…next time I do go on vacation I think I will have acupuncture right before I leave…what do you think?

Hi Vic, don’t give up on the acupuncture, it will take several treatments before you get relief. I was ready to give up but after six treatments I could tell a big difference. I pray this works for you as well as it has for me, I’m still
pain free and I’m grateful for every pain free moment, I know you understand the feeling. Carolyn

Hello, I was reading somewhere the chiropractic care can also help. I haven’t tried any of these things yet but I’ve just been reading about them… Just wanted to post that…Hope everyone is doing well today.

Hi Ingrid, Yes I’ve read about the Chiropractic treatments too. They say the secret to this is a doctor who specializes
in cranial and neck treatments. Good luck if you decide to go that route.
