Has anybody tried acupucture for TN ?
Greetings Donna,
I use acupuncture when the dull aching pain in my jaw and cheek act up.

Hi Donna,
Yes, I've tried acupuncture for ATN. The first time I tried acupuncture it didn't work, and I think it actually made my condition worse (as if my face became hyper-senzitive after the treatment). At that time I had about 5 sessions of acupuncture. Still, I decided to give acupuncture another go, this time I chose my doctor more carefully - I wrote to the local representation of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine for a recommendation of a doctor who has experience specifically in treating TN. This time round I'm luckier, I've had three sessions so far and there was a good, several days lasting relief twice out of the three times I went. My current acupuncturist (who happens to be an anestegiologist, so she deals with pain management daily) inserts fine needles into my face, hands and feet. The first acupuncturist was using thicker needles and slightly different spots of insertion. Maybe it's the same as with pills, we don't all respond well to just one type of treatment, sometimes we must try a few to find the right one. Good luck if you decide to try acupuncture!
Take care,
Oldriska
it has helped me quite a bit
Hi: I go every other week. It helps a great deal with my ATN symptoms (like ear and top of head - they go away for long periods) and provides temporary relief from TN (it never lasts more than a few days). It helps me get recentered, grounded and just overall ":feel good"
I go to Trauma specialist
Albee you still on medicine ?
