who here suffers from toothache due to dental procedure? any advice to give?
prescription lidocaine mouthwash for pain
we would need more details on what you had done etc.
Thanks :)
Welll it happened a long time ago, as a result of a filling - burning 24/7
I thought a lot my pain was due to teeth but it was eventually the TN. The TN feels like a toothache magnified 10 times, doubt this helps you but I have had many root canals and surgery on my teeth before being diagnosed.
I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. is it only in the tooth?
I have 24/7 pain in my teeth and 100mg/day of amitriptyline is the only thing that has made a big difference in the pain levels. I also find some relief in taking Klonopin. I also use lidocaine -- I have a "stent" - a special mold of my gums, and I put the lidocaine in the stent - this way only the problem teeth are numb -- the stent prevents it from getting all over my mouth and making the whole area numb.
Crazy, but yes. My first attack was the worst pain I felt in my life. I've read that as time goes on, it may move to other sites. But I was positive it wasn't the tooth when the anticonvulsant meds worked and the pain killers didn't. I've had two root canals on that tooth so it shouldn't hurt unless there is an infection. After three different anti-biotics and no sign of infection I went to the neurologist.

there is a TN that presents with burning all the time and they treat it with klonopin. It's called burning mouth syndrome.
Is the filling metal or porcelain?
There is also atypical odontalgia. It could be TN or blood vessel inflammation they use antidepressants for this. Not for depression but of it's brain chemical properties. It happens after having dental work done. The pain is usually constant, burning, aching and or throbbing instead of fleeting and sharp.
mine also started after a "simple" dental filling ("deep filling") 24/7 pain in different levels.
first doctors said it's "imposibble" to happen after a filling. now i know better.
mine (as many others) is in the first (deepest) molar. left side on the bottom of kaw ).
(put the pain is also on the "upper" side of jaw.
CLEO
How long do you suffer from this condition? as much as i know the repair of a nerve is done in the early stages of the injury, is it the trigeminal nerve? i wish to have the opportunity of repairing it, all i can consider is to try to kill that nerve. Do you know if they repair an old injuierd nerve? keep us posted about the way it went for you, praying it worked for you... By the way my self is also considerd to be injured by the lidocaine injection
Cleo, what meds have you found to be the most effective for you? I'm looking for an add on to my amitriptyline and klonopin.
SAME SAME SAME......THEN AFTER ALL SAID AND DONE (YRS AGO) 1 YR LATER A HERPATIC LESION SEEN/FOUND IN MY EAR, DEEP INSIDE. THAT WAS CAUSE OF ALL THE VARIETIES OF PAIN LEAVING ME W/ POST HERPATIC NEURALGIA EVENTUALLY ADDING AND = TN NOW.

Cleo i seem to not get what your saying....let me try to see if i do get it.
You have done this repair somewhere in 2000 and it continued to hurt 6 years after, and only after 6 years you were pain free???
I am soory maybe i found it hard to understand completely since Einglish is not my mother tongue
I am trying to understand if it's the surgery who saved you from the pain
My injury was in 2006, i went to a dentist (i almost did not go that day :() she only did a simple filling and from that point my life changed, i made two root canals for vain and must say i am today considering to extract the thooth (37) by the way. Cleo did you extracted yours?
thank you all for helping and sharing realy need this help and support
Ravit, I can tell my experience with this. My pain started with severe eye toothe pain. Went to the dentist had root canal done. Had another done on tooth next to it. Still had pain ,, went to endodontist had root canal re-done.. then had nose bleed. had to go to ENT ..had sinus surgery to clear out serious infection. Then had pain in the floor of my sinus cavity..Plus still had pain in the that area where it started those TWO teeth the eye tooth and the one behind it. Eventually I figured (after much argueing and visits with the endondontist) that the second tooth behind the eye tooth HAD to go..I thought It was cracked!!.Sooo I had an oral surgeon PULL it.!! STILL had pain. SO I decide to have a ROOT canal done on the MOLAR which started to bother me..since I would need a bridge anyway. This process took 3 years. Then I had the Gamma knife procedure. It worked for intense pain, but then it came back after three years, in May of last year.
meto as far as teeth and root canals then they found the herpatic lesion.....after root canal and extractions. my neuro (after that) went crazy but i did not know. teeth ached and vibrated. could not touch or brush.

Right now I am pain free, but only on day three of the meds at this dosage. I am hoping it my body doesn't get used to it because as it is, I practically pass out on the dosage and I don't think I can go up. Last time I was so loopy on meds I pain my mortgage twice. It's awful and good at the same time. We shall see. As for the dentist. The crown prep went really good. No triggering of the nerve. I don't remember the last time I was completely pain free.
I had oral surgery and it happened afterwards......TN!!!!!! Before I was diagnosed, I would go to my dentist and beg him to pull my back teeth. I would have one pulled and the horrific pain would come back.
I went for 3 years without an attack and last week TN viciously came back into my life. The attacks only occur when I go to bed. I am awakened with a stabbing pain in my right eye, nostril, teeth and the ice pick in my ear. I recently had a shingles vaccine.....could that have brought these attacks back?
I take Cymbalta, oxygen therapy and Imitrex nasal spray.
Hi Kathy,
If you're reading this, would you please share your experience with the oxygen therapy? I've read it's useful in pain management but don't know any one who'd actually done the therapy.
Many thanks & take care,
Oldriska
Hi Oldriska,
As soon as I get my warning of an attack, I put on my oxygen mask and heat up a cloth for my nose, ear and jaw and lay back and breathe in the oxygen. It usually works well.......if I can't get any relief, I have to stand and pace. Sometimes when I get NO relief, I do the Imetrex nasal spray.

Robin Lawlor, How were you diagnosed with herpes? what were your symptoms? what examination you had to do for verification? treatment for it?
