Hi there, i have TN and my eyes are effected badly. I wear sun glasses day and night as i can not stand the light. Just wondering it it is normal with TN to have very blurry eyes. Just can't focus correctly a lot of the time when i do remove my sunglasses, even hours later if i can stand them of that long. Many thanks :)
My eyes are also a mess. Sometimes I wake up in the morning with my left eye blurry and bloodshot (more than normal). I generally find that getting in the shower and putting a hot washcloth over my eyes several times helps, along with putting in eye drops for dryness (Optiva Sensitive Eyes is the only one that doesn't burn really bad, generally). Do you have post-herpetic TN?
I get extremely blurry eyes but my left eye tends to act up more. I have MS and TN so I'm not sure which one to blame. ;)
Meds will cause this also....I also have blur vision but i have a brain tumor also on the V nerve....God Bless
I've had severe Photophobia (sensitivity to light) since 1985. I also wear sunglasses day and night. Overhead lights drive me insane and even table lamp make me crazy. Since I've had it long before the TN hit I don't know if it's connected. I also have chronic migraine, which may be the connection.
Thanks for the answers, i have had blurred vision way before TN and taking new meds. My migraines i a sure are triggered by TN. Very sever. Not sure what TN i have as still waiting on my specialist. Public medical system is very slow here in NZ. I am now finding my med's are not working as good as they did so doctor wants me to up the dose. I hate the side effect. I zig-zag when i walk and crash into walls etc. Must look funny. Doesn't feel funny though. GRRR.
Puppyhound,
My eyes have become extremely sensitive to light since my experience with TN2 began in September of last year. Changes in light are actually painful...often causing me to get a burning/seering pain in my right eye, the socket, and my right cheek bone. It is really unbearable. Headlights and street lights are awful now. I wear my sunglasses all the time when I am outside in daylight or anywhere near bright lights like headlights...even at night. It seems I have less trouble seeing in the dark now. By that I mean I can walk around in the dark or even in an unlit room and see fine. I could not do that before onset of my TN2. I have caught myself in my classroom of the mornings for 5 minutes or more (before students arrive) preparing for my day, writing on the board, etc. without even realizing that I have forgotten to take off my sunglasses from the commute in. My room has no windows in it. Additionally, I have had to remove all fluorescent lighting from my classroom and run lamps with incandescent bulbs. My eye and cheek will start burning and intensify the headache that I always have if I have my eyes unshielded in fluorescent light for even a few minutes. My neurologist suggested that it might be due to misinformation from the Ophthalmic nerve of my right eye. He seems to think that the V1 being agitated causes it.
I also have issues with focusing on texts that are of any significant length. Especially if the text is on a white background or page and has black text. Have you experienced that at all? I had to take a sabbatical from some Graduate School work I was doing this winter as I could not read the texts that went along with it without my eye burning and aching intensely.

Fred I was wondering if you have prescription or if you have 20/2o vision. Just curious. Because I could never see at night. Still can't. I can't take headlights at night and for a long time I could not stand bright lights in the house. I did have blurry vision it was one of my first symptoms along with the pain. Probly still do, I've just grown accustomed to it....
Yes Fred i to can not read on black or white back ground. I love reading books and had to give that up as i could not see the words properly with blurry and painful eyes. Even typing this is hurting and blurring. I now have an iPod with talking books that i just love. It is so great to talk on here with other people with the same effects from TN. I was wondering if i was just going crazy lol. I feel all sympathy for all of you. Many thanks for the reply's. xx
Min C,
I have always had prescription lenses or contacts of some sort. When I went to the eye doctor in December (before my diagnosis) I was told that my right eye, same side as the TN2 and constant headache, had improved by 3 prescription strengths since December 2010 when I had last been there. My left eye, the unaffected side, did not change at all though he did adjust the prescription of my left contact as well to help it even out the big change in my right eye. Seems strange to me that it improved so much in one year...the year I get onset of TN2, this constant right-side headache, and super photosensitive.

My left eye is affected, and I've had to stop working due to symptoms, and this was one of the first ones. It's like my left eye is pulled out of focus, and if I press on my left cheek/temple area, I can focus better. Blurry vision too - sometimes I have a hard time reading black text on white pages. I think there's some swelling in my case as well, and lying on a heating pad has offered some relief. I'm new to this group, and sure appreciate hearing everyone's experiences - helps assure me I'm not crazy. I told one doctor about my eye, and he flat out told me that wasn't really possible. Monday I have a neurology appointment in Montreal, and I'm hoping it will be a step in the right direction. Such LLOONNGG wait times to see specialists here in Canada...and elsewhere from what I read. Take care, everyone.
Yes, that is very strange indeed. I wear glasses. Mine have only changed slightly on the right side since the onset on TN. The Bifocals have changed a bit too, but that's it. Wow, that's very interesting...

Puppyhound, please be sure to join the "eye group". It's all people with eyes affected by TN. I can't read, watch tv or be on the computer very long because of the burning pain. Also have had to give up driving except between maybe 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (can't take the glare). I wear sunglasses at night while my husband is driving, sometimes during the day/night I have to put a towel over my eyes. I'm sure people think I'm blind. Flourescent lights bother me, it depends a lot upon the store. Sometimes I can only take 15 minutes in a store. People probably think I'm crazy, suddenly covering my eyes and almost running out of a store. Oh how people take their eyes for granted!
I do, Puppyhound. It's a new symptom for me, and not as severe as yours, but my eyes are blurry a lot. It is getting to where I almost cannot drive on sunny days.
Could be your medicine also check your side effects...God bless
