Sunlight is not my friend

I have a real issue with sunlight. If it is a cloudy overcast day I feel so much better. The sun is not my friend. Also the heat bothers me badly. The cold weather is such a relief. Strangely I fair much better in the gloom of winter. I enjoy the snow and clouds. On super sunny days I have to stay in my house with the shades drawn. Sometime I even have to wear my shades indoors. Anyone else like this or am I just a total weirdo? lol

Kristal,

I echo and support Jackie's input: light sensitivity is a frequent side effect of a number of meds, and not all of those meds are restricted to use in chronic neuropathic pain. You're not weird. Maybe a bit unusual in the intensity of the effect. Weird is my territory, though for other reasons... {:-)

I have never been what you would call an outdoor person. I am very fair so I avoid the sun so I don’t fry like bacon.lol I have always been able to at least look outside and be outside in the shade. I really don’t think it’s my medicine. It was like this for several years before I got my dx. Maybe all my friend are right and I am just a cold weather loving vampire!! HA HA

My TN is centered in my left eye. It has made me super sensitive to not only sunlight, but to all light. My bedroom has become The Cave...lights off, shades drawn. When I'm not in The Cave, I wear the darkest glasses I can find. I was doing this pre-meds, pre-diagnosis...it just feels better with the glasses than without them.

And I wasn't like this until the pain started. I was a sun seeker. I would just go outside to read my books. Now I can't go outside or read without hurting.

My weather trigger has always been wind and cold, but on a recent long distance car trip I discovered the sun shining through the window was not my friend either. I think any temperature change sets me off, so its inside I stay!

I always wanted to be a vampire...LOL

Guess I should be careful what I wish for!!

I have to wear super blind person sunglasses outside or inside with bright lights. Can’t read, watch TV or be on the computer much. Flourescent light just kills me. Usually my eyes burn from the TV or computer, reading even a few minutes causes my trigeminal nerves over my eyes really hurt. This is absolute hell. I can’t even take someone taking my picture. Have to be very careful about the transition from dark to light. I even wake up in the mornig WITHOUT OPENING MY EYES. Just started naturally doing that last year. I have to slowly open my eyes and get used to the light. Lyrica is helping a little with sunlight, not so much with the other stuff. I have pain almost all the time. PHTN.
