White Sugar Trigger?

I made the mistake of attempting to eat some coffee cake that had a glaze on it. I put it in my mouth and it seemed as though a nerve was exposed. The Pain was severe enough to make me break into a cold sweat. ... It brought me to tears ... Has anyone experienced this or something similar?

Me too, think I have talked with one other person who said the same. Yes anything sugary like that, chocolate, soft candy like sugar stuff, that comes in contact with teeth and gums, cake iceing, soda(use a straw), etc. Soon as it touches my sensitive teeth its a trigger for sharp shooting electric radiating it sucks pain. O Mint tooth paste too.

Interesting.. however, pure cane sugar does not cause the same reaction. The pain was so severe, it included burning sensation and shooting pains all at the same time. I was afraid to eat anything for 2 days after that episode.

Just seeing this post now and a definite YES to icing and sugar and same reaction. The first time was when friend brought me cinnamon buns she had made for me and with the first bite, ZING! and then a searing burn and so I took another bite and thought really? really? Is this ally happening. Now anything sweet these days is bad news: honey, brown rice syrup, agave nectar…

Oh man. I am so sorry to hear that. This must be a TN thing as I never have an issue with soft coatings or anything. I only have issues with crunching and crisping with GN.

At least you now know and cand put it in your amunition bag, dont eat the glaze…

Happy Thursday (my friday).

yeah, happened to me when i took a bite of german chocolate cake ...the gooey stuff on top hit that part of my mouth and ...yeah, felt like my face was on fire. Cake should not make you spit it out and cry...dang it!

I've figured out over the years to avoid sweet (especially gooey, sticky, melty) stuff...it does hurt my mouth/face.

I'm sorry you are having this issue as well...it's just plain sad.

The ammunition bag is full of all kinds of favourite goodies…like wine, beer, anything alcoholic , I can’t do crunchy or salty either, or spicy or acidic. But sometimes I have a hard time keeping my fingers out of that bag…
Happy Friday to you.

Thanks for telling me about your experience. I still have sweet cravings and on good days can eat a piece of really good dark chocolate like dog…just wolf down and try to miss all the “bad” spots and enjoy the pleasure in my stomach later!>

Hah see I CRAVE salt like mad, and booze is evil for me in large quantities.

Just goes to show that everyone is different. You need to try and see what works.
Lots of reading.

OLMEQ,

I found that I had pain every time I ate something that caused me to salivate. I dreaded putting food in my mouth because I knew it would trigger the pain. I started eating very bland foods that wouldn't "startle" my taste buds. Anything with a lot of taste triggered the pain.

Yup, that’s it, anything tasty is bad news. Textures too.

I haven't noticed it. My main problems are really chewy things like a nice steak, or really crunchy things. I drink alcohol and eat sweets and those things have not set mine off. Thank goodness!
