I have my first neuro appt. on Thursday and while I haven't "officially" been diagnosed by a neuro I've had my G.P. and three dentists tell me they're about 90% sure I have both T.N. and A.T.N. I'm just wondering what to expect and if they will do any sort of testing or anything.
I would think he will mainly listen to you.He will inquire about your pain levels and your triggers ect...They may give you meds.Probably tegretol. If you're not already taking something. They will probably want to do an MRI.Don't be nervous. They work for you!!There is more info available here on this site than your neuro knows in my opinion so don't be intimidated.
I hope your Neuro has OTHER or MANY patients like you. Otherwise, go to the next one!
But it sounds like you have been lucky for 3 professionals to point you in the right direction!
ASK FOR SURE -- if you can get a prescription for lidocaine.
There is ones for patches for your face
There is one for cream for your face
There is one for mouthwash if it hurts there!
It allows you to have LOWER dosage on whatever med they want to give you.
The main pill they want to give you, you don't want higher doses unless the lidocaine doesn't work for you.
Start there, and from that point, learn as MUCH as you can by asking, reading, repeat --- here and at the book we all love:
Striking Back - by Dr. Ken Casey
The more knowledge you have, the best treatments can help sooner!
You will need to know how to manage this for a very long time. We are only about 10, in 100,000..... so doctors need to be flexible about helping people with rare diseases!
So far, my G.P. has put me on neurontin but it makes me sleepy and I'm not sure I can handle the side effects as I have an *almost* one year old and a two year old. I suppose it's somewhat helping with the pain but I've only been on it a few days. I'm still having a hard time with the breakthrough pain and really need to figure out what I can do. I'm a stay at home mom with two kids and I also care my elderly aunt and usually my father in law. He just happens to be in a rehab facility right now as he just had his knee replaced but I'm not sure how I'll continue to get through the days in so much pain.
Your GP could call the pharmacy tomorrow for lidocaine above…
It helps many…
.RIGHT NOW! : )
No appointment needed!
I have lidocaine patches on my head right now and they do nothing for me. I tried them months ago with no effect so I put them in the back of the drawer. I got disparate tonight so I’m. Giving them another try. So far nothing. Ask you doc for samples before you have to pay for them. That’s what I did.
