US medical insurance

I’m UK based, which is why I ask the question.

Does US medical insurance cover TN/ facial pain if the patient chooses to see a physical therapist of any kind? What is the process involved from G.P., specialist, does it exclude physical therapy, not entertain it, or what, when you first meet a primary care physician? I’m interested in the process, and everyone here has been to some extent involved in the process. Seriously interested in individual stories.

I suppose some people’s insurance might cover physical therapy for TN/facial pain, but I am having a hard time off the top of my head thinking about how that kind of service provider would be justified as “medically necessary” for TN/facial pain (assuming there is nothing else going on). That’s basically the bottom line in the US with respect to insurance coverage – the treatment has to be deemed medically necessary. Generally that means that people are first seen by their primary care physicians and then specialist care referrals are made (and coverage authorized) when treatment goes beyond the scope of primary care.

Yes agree with first post. In my case I don’t have to go to my primary care. Just went to the specialist then they might recommend or send me somewhere else. In my case my general care doc handled some of it then I went to a couple neurologist and then sought out my neurosurgeon and I haven’t had any trouble with insurance on any of it. I have not had any physical therapy though.
