Updated today: Disability criteria for neurological

I spoke with Director of SSA Cheryl Williams this morning. She said public commentary has been reopened until June 2, 2014.

I know when the comments were open before (they closed April 30, 2014) I didn’t really see many from TN patients. I feel we have a chance to voice our opinions to the SSA about how TN affects our lives and how this disease can be very debilitating.

This disease has taken so much from me. I used to be such a go-getter and now I live my life around TN. I was the first to graduate college in my family and was often promoted at the jobs I held. I still aspire to become a microbiologist, but sometimes that dream seems so far away.

I want those who cannot work due to this disorder to have to means to survive (pay mortgage, food, medication expenses) and thrive (be able to try treatments, surgeries and specialists).

Being on disability doesn’t have to be lifelong. Disability claims on reviewed based on your probability to recover (maybe not the best term).
Likely to recover is 1 year disability
Probably will recover is 3 years
Not likely is 7 years.
You will then be reevaluated to see if you’ll need to continue on disability or are able to return to the work force.

I believe strongly in offering the option for disability to TN patients.

Kismet, I have cross-posted your information, with attribution to your user name here at Living with TN, to four Facebook mutual support groups having a combined membership of just over 8,000 people. Thanks for drawing this to the attention of our membership. I will distribute a broadcast notice to our 5300 or so, shortly.

REgards and best,

Red,

Glad to help any way I can and we appreciate how hard you work for us. This is such an important event for TN patients. I’ll be working on my comment shortly.

Not sure why the link didn’t work. I’ll try posting it again. If it doesn’t work feel free to copy and paste into your web browser.
