Ughhh Pretty Sure I have an abcess

I don’t know what to do!

Background: I am reletively pain free for the most part. Never sure if its periods of remission or the lamictal. Last week I had some pretty decent breakthrough pain. I recently had a baby and figured it was happenening because my system was getting back to normal. Same thing happened during and after my first child.

So being I recently had pain I am no where ready to risk dental work even if I doubled up my meds which is what I typically do. I’ve had work done last year so I know my dentist will want me to come straight in( I know I should) but I’m petrified as my last attack, though mild, was just 6 days ago. He has one or two other patients with TN and always insists we have all been fine as long as our meds are taken and keeping the pain at bay. He is smug about the fact that he has never triggered our TN so I’m worried how they will respond when I call.

Anyone ever have this happen and thier dentist prescribe antibiotics for now just until things settle down with their TN?

Lindsey, I think you know you have to bite the bullet and visit/call the dental office. He may be smug that he has not triggered the pain before, but he doesn't feel it, soooooooooooooooooooo, you do. There is a first time for everything. An abcess can be rotten, keep us updated please.

I called.Dentist said to gargle with salt water and separately peroxide since I did feel I had something in between the two teeth the day before I noticed the lump. Might just have aggravated the area. Because I’m not in pain they don’t want to jump the gun on meds. Supposed to call tomorrow to see if there is any improvement. She also asked if it could have been there and I never noticed since its not a ball. We shall see

Thanks for the update, fingers crossed it's just trivial.

I had this happen about two years ago, expect I had two abcessed teeth. My tn was just barely starting to be controlled at the time. Anyhow I went into go see my dental surgeon he’s extremely careful with me, and knows how nasty TN can be and is. Any how I had to to anitbotics for a week before he would pull the teeth. There was no way I would sit for a root canal let alone two, so I had the teeth pulled. Even was the careful work he did it still aggrieved my Tn pretty bad for three or four months. The wore at part was my doctor’s assistance did not have me double up on any medication, and she was not very kind to me about. That my husband had to get involved to back up my claims. Anyhow, you need to get in. I know I’m not gained of dental work either, in fact the dental surgeon see understands why I refuse to come in for cleaning or use of a soft washcloth in use to clean my teeth. You might to search topics on dental work or look up the dental work in the face pain info tab above. I wish you well and good luck on this. Hugs and keep us posted

OMG, I am a dentist who runs to get "shots" to calm my TN down!!! Get proper dentistry done!! Do not disable yourself by having extractions????? Thats is so improper. I am so happy to have the proper endodontist(root canal specialist) who takes a cone x-ray(3 dimensional) for myself and my patients to see if indeed one truly needs a root canal.

You need to have all your dentistry done, and have your mouth in proper shape, and maintained constantly.

Why have overlapping pain??????

Always get everything checked by an exam, calling means NOTHING. I am a dentist, and the first rule of thumb is get the patient in for an exam. Let the dentist make a proper diagnosis, and then you could be rescheduled when you have increased your meds.

I just saw this response… Sorry not sure how I missed it. I did as the office said and the bump on my gum did resolve itself. Do you think I still need to go in? I haven’t and didnt ever have pain as a result of the bump.

Thanks for your help!
