I've personally decided after filling my prescription and have read all warnings & side effects, I'm not taking them at all. When I'm in pain I do take the Oxycodone to relieve the pain. I have recently discovered that Vitamin therapy may be very helpful. This is my first week trial of B12 shots & 500mg of Vitamin C along with my muti vitamin daily suppliment.
Good luck Dena. Let us know how the vitamins work. I take tegretol. It does help. But I do understand your concerns.
funny, I have never even been offered tregetol. Is that a good thing???
Dena,
I had too many side effects with tegretol. Have you thought about trying another medicine? I also take B-12 but the liquid not shots and a high dose of a multi-B vitamin. Angel, it did help my pain.

Tegretol was awful for me too - wiped out my blood cells and left me feeling foggy, clueless and wobbly (at the top of a ski hill - not fun). So I came off it - I was only it for a few weeks too! What I will say is that it seemed to re-set my neuron wiring so to speak and since then I have been in remission (mostly).
Good luck and let me know how the Vitamin therapy works out - are you taking more than the daily recommended doses?
The meds made me sick as a dog and I couldn't function properly, so I decided no more meds.
I've had acupuncture which helps diminish the severity of the pain.
My acupuncturist suggested that I take CoQ10 (800 mg daily, 400 morning, 400 evening), fish oil with high Omega 3 (900 mg) content, and I also take L-Lysine daily. This combination has helped me tremendously, but it took months (about 6 months) to see results. Right now I haven't needed acupuncture and am just taking the supplements. The CoQ10 seemed to help the most. What pain I do have now is occasional and bearable.
