Supplements?

Hi,

Has anyone taken supplements along with Tegretol to help counteract the low energy and drowsiness?

I haven't but that's a good thought, I am horrible at taking anything. I only remember my TN drugs because the pain reminds me lol. I don't see why things like vitamins couldn't be taken. Great idea :)

I take B-complex vitamins, but it doesn't help with the drowsiness. But I was told it is good to try to heal nerves, so I am taking it. I drink a lot of coffee.........sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I don't know about you, but I am tired of being tired! But at the same time, I guess I would rather be tired all the time than be in constant pain.

Yes, I drink coffee but that doesn't help :( I would take being tired over the pain, but unfortunately I have to deal with both! I am on 1200 mg of Tegretol and I still have pain on a daily basis. I recently switched neurosurgeons and was REALLY happy and I REALLY liked him. Though I had another MRI on the 28th and have heard NOTHING! I have called and left messages twice now and no return call...I am starting to get very annoyed with his office!!!!

I will have to look into the B-complex vitamins, thanks :)

No problem. I don't have pain daily, but every 4-6 weeks, I will start having breakthrough pains, then go into a full attack and have to increase meds again. I am on 1200 a day too.

Well did you find any better answers? I just started taking Tegretol, and I hate the drowsy feeling and loss of equilibrium. The drunken feeling seems to be fading away thankfully. I’ve heard other people say the coffee increases the likelihood of an attack, but not for y’all, huh? I know this thread hasn’t had much activity recently, but I have the same problem. And the Tegretol hasn’t completely eliminated my pain by a long shot… I’m being faithful to my dosage though, but it sucks because we all need our brains to work, not just be pain free!!

Hi,

Yes, I have been taking a magnesium supplement and it makes me feel better. Like with more energy. Since I'm taking it my teeth pain has diminished as well.

Thanks for the info! I've been taking a Vitamin B complex, and I'm not sure if it is related, but my equilibrium seems to be returning, which is good, because I have to ride my bike to work today. Hopefully the side effects continue to subside and the pain relief grows, because I'm still not anywhere near being pain free.
