Hi,
I have had NT for 2 years now. After constant dentist apointments, I was sent to neurologist who said I have NT. I started with tegretol, but it doesent help! I then tried acopuncture treatment but still no relief. My MRI didnt show anything (is that normal in other cases?) and I dont know what to do next, but I am deperate. I cant eat enything and I am underweight. Any sugestions what to do next? Well, I smoke weed every day, and I started taking large doses ob B-complex as I read it could help. Do you think this NT could be caused by lyme borelliosis that I had when I was a child? Or what could be the cause and how to treath this condition? If anyone knows something I dont enlighten me, please... (ps: excuse me if my english isnt good, this is foreign language for me)
Dear Juliana,
Tegretol works for me, but not by itself. To ease the absolute worst attack I ever had, I had to take Tegretol, tramadol, and Flexeril together to obtain relief. Of course these drugs may have different names where you are from. Usually the Tegretol and the tramadol are sufficient together. My doctor also gave me B-12 as older people (yes, I'm older) tend to have B-12 deficiency and the nerves are dependent on B vitamins. Also, those drugs I mentioned were prescriptions obtained from a doctor.
The pain has more than one cause, so what works for one person might not be the answer for another.
I am no nutrition specialist, but for those times I cannot eat because of the pain I take a nutritional supplement drink or a liquid vegetable drink through a straw very carefully and inserted into my mouth on the opposite side of the pain.
I hope this has helped you a little bit.
Pat
Thank you for the reply. My doctor prescribed me Zaldiar (this is paracetamol+tramadol) bot it is written on it that you should never take it with Tegretol (???) so I was afraid to take it. And the other is musleralaxant if I am correct? And thank you also for the sugestion about supplement drink- I will go and buy some because I really can not eat :( Yesterday I said:"thats enough I need some real food" and I fried myself some egs with mushrooms and vegetables, and before I could even finish what I had on my plate, I was on my knees crying and my husband looking for one of the neighboures to babysit our children while he takes me to ER :(
There is a long list of medications that help different people. At the top of the page look under Face Pain Info
To name a few--Nuerontine, Lyrica, Topomax, Amitripytyline, Nortriptyline. There is sometimes a lot of trial and error with finding a med, or a combination of meds, that work.
For your nutrition--Boost or Ensure are two drinks that you can buy. But you can also make smoothies and get creative on what you add to help with calories and nutrients. If you get a Magic Bullet it works better then a blender. Homemade soups are also great for this. And you can puree them in the Bullet.
