For the past two days I have been experiencing extreme vertigo. My neurologist won’t be in the office until tomorrow. Was curious if TN can cause vertigo?
I experienced extreme vertigo 2 years ago, after much testing, seeing an ENT and vestibular therapist, it was determined it was caused by the Tegretol. I never changed my dose, after aprox 3-4 months it went away.
Best to investigate as many things can cause vertigo.
Hope it resolves soon. Mimi
Thank you so much for your response.
I have not added any new medications. This just came on out of the blue and is growing increasingly worse. I have no signs or symptoms of being sick that might cause an inner ear issue. I was curious if TN has been known to cause vertigo or is linked to it in any way.
I believe it can. I have severe vertigo after MVD surgery. I hate it. I feel like i am drunk. I had to get a doctor to write note that I am under care for hearing loss and dizziness The correlation could be damage to the nerves while the decompression occurred...
I have not had MVD. I’m at such a loss at what’s causing the vertigo. The only thing left was maybe the TN. Not sure if it could do something to cause it.
Hello Heather,
I am SO glad you ask!
I have (severe) vertigo-spells. And I have TN. And I didn't have had an MVD and meds are not the cause.
The vertigo started three years ago at the same time TN did. I didn't took any meds at that time.
Well after waking this morning and finding myself in a constant state of mild vertigo I decided it was time to contact the neurologist. I sent him a detailed message reviewing my health and test results since our last visit. Hopefully he will have answers for me.
It can be caused my stenosis in the neck
More commonly by little calcium deposits deep in the ear
I went to ER with it,
used Bonnie - over the counter
Dramamine type of med.
Went away in two days!
Heather, mine started that way too…out of no where. Glad you contacted your Neuro, best to get it checked out.
Btw, I hadn’t changed my Tegretol dose either…apparently you can just start with a new side effect at any time in the duration of your taking the med. I had been on this dose of Tegretol for 1.5 years at that point. ( and 10 years prior I was on it with no vertigo)
I’m still on it, and no vertigo.
You never know…
Hope it resolves soon, Mimi
