Has anyone else had to deal with these issues too? I had a nerve block done in December which has left me pain free for the past 2 months. I am thrilled. However a month ago I began suffering from vertigo and nystagmus (eyes darting back and forth). When it initially hit I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days and laid up another 4 weeks after. I couldn’t even walk with out falling down. My doctors don’t think it’s connected to my TN but said it is a possibility. Cranial nerve 8 which affects balance and functions in the inner ear crosses right beside the trigeminal nerve. Just curious if anyone else with TN has suffered from this too. I’m seeing a new neurologist at Cleveland clinic who specializes in vertigo but I can’t get in until March.
Could it be reaction to meds? I am taking lamitcal along with baclofen and occasionally I will have some dizziness. However I do dare stand with my feet together or I will loose my balance. I've also had a gasserian ganglion block in July and it did not help! 3 hours later I was in more pain than before. Since then, October and December I've had radiofrequency lesions done. No relief. 2 weeks ago the Dr added baclofen and it is not helping. I go back in 2 weeks and I am going to request have MVD done. I've been dealing with TN for 9 years. But the last 3 years have been terrible!
I hope you will find answers in March.
I developed horrid vertigo from my Tegretol which I had been on for two years at that point, and continue to be on.
I was immobile for 6-8 weeks sat in a chair predominantly…had months and months of tests, specialists and vestibular physiotherapy before it was determined by process of elimination that it was a side effect from the med. it eventually went away…
I am taking Tegretol so that is definitely a possibility. When admitted, they did question a med interaction. they checked my Tegretol levels which came back normal. But that doesnt mean its not the problem. They also stopped my neurontin, but it didn’t help. Ive remained off the neurontin since. I’m starting to come around except I can’t lay on my right side. When I do the vertigo starts. I’m doing vestibular physical therapy and will be seeing a second neuro who specializes in vertigo at Cleveland clinic but can’t get in until march 20th. Grrr…thanks guys!
My lack of stability and vertigo are definitely linked to my med, Carbamazepine, and the complication of the eighth nerve being stretch during MVD surgery. I am trying occipital nerve blocks to try and minimize the sensations. The neuro said it should take a few blocks, which are done monthly at this point, to see if we have any success. The vestibular rehab may help too. I never had these sensations before going on the med. My latest blood work showed my med was in a theraputic range so at least it is not because I am toxic. All the best fellow stumblers. We would definitely fail a roadside check stop for drinking and driving. No way they would believe us after seeing us walk heel to toe.
