Anyone have a good med combination that really helps

carbamazepine 1200 isn't working for me it helps but just leaves me really dizzy like your drunk, is there a combination of drugs that have worked for you? Maybe this lousy doctor would be willing to change this for me apparently i need to do his job for him

Yo! sluggo!

Personally. at the moment, I'm working on that med/meds calibration process as well.

Hope you can stay pain-free. Make a dedicated TN log book and jot down everything related to your pain/dizziness.

Record everything related to any Dr appnts, etc. that you have and the follow-up results .

Hi,

Tegretol made me rip roaring drunk for quite a while. Maybe you could start out at a lower dose.

Just tell the dr.

Just one beer and I would immediately upchuck (that I tried months later... amazed me how fast).

Anyway, I got use to the Tegretol. Worked terrific on the pain for about a year. Then it quit working which is common.

Usually Tegretol is the first line of medications the drs use.

The second is Neurontin.

Please note I only know this from experience (ie I am not a medical professional.)

How long have you been on it? It can take a couple of weeks to get used to the side effects.... I keep forgeting that the Trileptal I take IS carbamazepine ---- it only makes me stupid not dizzy ---- neurontin made me dizzy and lyrica made me high

after one year and the third med - that's when I went for MVD - thats how its written up on my insurance - that I could not tolerate the medication voila

I hope you get resolution soon---

some meds that help people that have been posted here are

Baclofen

Nortriptyline,

amitriptyline

Methadone

Lamictal

Oxycodon

Tramadol

Klonopin

topirimate,

alprazolam

flexeril

In ER: IV dilaudid + toradol + benadryl (synergistic to enhance effect of other two)

I copied and pasted these from an old post here and saved them on a document.

Some were on one, two, three or more meds - different combos of benzos, muscle relaxants, anti-seizure, sometimes its in the combo

- sometimes you have to research and give your doctor YOUR list of prefered meds/combos to try because you read about them here --- THAT is the sad part-- then they can choose A, B, or C of the ones YOU have whittled it down to - side effects are of course secondary to pain relief most of the time --- but you can google side effects of meds and patients are all over the web saying what it did for them, what it did TO them, or what did not work

I find that askapatient.com is a very good one - as is drugs.com but not many reviewers on there list TN but their are some -- but they DO list side effects regardless of disorder

Hope this helps

Excellent list kcdancer … Everyone responds differently but great information. Thanks

Trileptal is oxcarbazepine. I started out taking neurontin years ago. Then I had GKRS. When pain came back my neuro tried me on Tegretol which is carbamazepine. After 2 months I couldn't take that because every time we tried to increase it to alleviate the jaw pain it would cause more glossopharyngeal symptoms( trouble swallowing and extreme ear pain). So I was taken off. I am now on Trileptal and topomax(topiramate) for migraine preventative and effexor xr for pain control an anti depressant, and amitriptyline for burning pain, oxycodone for breakthru pain.

I take 600 Mg of Gabapentin and 400 Mg of Tegretol
twice a day and it does a very good job of keeping
The pain under control. Side affect is, I feel medicated
Most of the time unless I’m actively doing something.
I was taking 1200 Mg of Gabapentin but recently cut back.
