TN or not TN

Hello, I am new to this site, recommended by a friend. I went into hospital for an MVD on 9th March 09 and just before I went to theatre the neuro-surgeon looked at my MRI and said he thought I may have had the wrong diagnosis, he thinks I actually have Occipital Neuralgia and he refused to to the MVD! Instead he injected steroids into the occipital nerves and I have been ‘shock free’ since. I am being weened off the Tegratol and he talked about me having a 2nd opinion with a professor at orofacial and he also said he would like to give me PENS treatment which I believe is electrodes directly into the occipital nerves. I am both angry and confused, I have had 6 months off work because the bucket full of medication turned me into the Zombie/Sloth, I am now starting to feel almost human again but know this steroid injections were only a diagnostic tool, I am angry that due to all the meds I have gained 3 stones in weight, and confused as to whether this could have been diagnosed a hellova long time ago. I know I cant get back the last 20 months of my life so I hope they have the decency to not make me wait another 20 months before ridding me of this beast. Has anyone else been diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia after initially being told it was Trigeminal?
Thanks Sarah

I understand you right on the nose, LOL I love you humor and the verbiage you use! Some doctors kinda make it more confusing!
