I will be having all of my teeth pulled soon. I would like to hear any comments about your experiences with your TN and dental issues. Should I expect any change?
Hi
I have a great dentist who is TN aware
he has advised me (in my situation anyway) that pullining teeth is actually counterproductive.
When I go to the dentist it usually sets off the TN badly but I have learnt to premedicate with codeine (panadine forte x 2 30 mg) and it decreses the after effectes dramatically.
There are many who have had all teeth pulled and have had no good outcome as the tooth root and nerve is not the issue.
I suggest you see the best specialist you can as you cant really put them back once they are out and false teeth are not as good as real and may irritate the Trigeminal nerve anyway.

again this is only my expirence and my understanding having found a great dentist who knows all about TN.
hope it all works out for you mate
I totally echo all Simon has said. removal of teeth to help TN is not a good idea at all. If you are having them taken out because of dental necessity please join the subgroup for Dental Issues and see the advice there. All the best!
A link to the dental group
I dont think this is a good idea, although you will feel the pain coming from your teeth, you need to understand that it is a nerve matter and separate from teeth, as I have learnt!
I think I should clarify that it is a necessary dental issue . Thanks for all the replies and thanks Jackie for the link, I will definitely be checking it out. Good luck to you all.
Well Bugger mate
Sad that you have to have the teeth removed all the best for the proceedure. The one thing I have heard is that the nerves should be well and truly numbed off before extraction.
Againfrom my dentist
Like the new theory on amputaions they numb the limb before hand to stop the ghost limb symptom.
But please this is at best hearsay and really they should do this for you as per routine
If you are doing the is hospital hopefully it will be a general anasthetic?
If not
Premedicate with pain meds is what I was told by my Nurosugen Dentist and GP all great advice when stopping post opp pain.
again all the best hope it goes well.
good luck to you.
i figured you have to "pull them" due to dental issues.
no doctor would pull all teeth if the diagnosis is TN...
who knows.. maybe you WILL come back and tell us of a relief.
i guess and hope they are doing it in a hospital.. and in general anesesia ... please make sure in advanced they'll do ANYTHING to help you with the pain after extractions....it's so frightening.
good luck to you.
