In the interest of community, and because it would be so nice to talk about something other than illness with you lovely people -we are after all individuals with real lives. Yes, I know the pain can be all-absorbing. Just for that reason, I want to come on here for distraction!
So what was the most interesting non-TN input you got today?
I got complimented for my (super cool) hat today! And I found out that the Uni of Florida offers all of Uganda Journal as back issues, from 1934 and up. That was an interesting few hours spent: the days of expeditions to meet savage natives and discover new species. I cannot believe that the world was so big then. And here I am, talking to you people from all over, just like that.
Hi Tineline, isn't it amazing to read through information and nostalgia from nearly 100 years ago an imagine? I spent this morning with my husband's Grandfather who tells me stories of the 1930's and 40s of how life was different and how the things that we use today that make it easy and save time, how they achieved the same result by hand, dedication and honest hard work. The things they looked forward to: a cinema date, a dance, dinners at restaurants that were so formal, boys collecting stamps and girls dolls and paper dolls, trying new and amazing recipes and growing food, walking so far to school or working at a young age, milk and ice trucks the list is endless the differences so many..I have gained so much enrichment from his company and feel very blessed to have him in my life, as all my Grandparents are gone.
Also on a 2015 topic I am being educated on Minecraft (the computer game) by my young children, the possibilities of building a dreamhouse and filling a farm with animals, all through my imagination! lol.
I spend time creating/repainting and restoring dolls as my hobby which provides a distraction from my TN...would anyone like to share their hobbies too?
mel77, that is so true what you are saying. Tuning in to people's experiences - both young and old, can open your scope so much. if you want to hear about how to play The Legend of Zelda, I m your go-to-girl. Apart from Zelda, my hobbies are singing in a soul choir and cooking exciting things. I try to cook new recipes at least every week. Well, now I will have to, ha-ha.
the most interesting thing I learnt today is that my friend bought a one way ticket to Jordan, and she doesn't know when and where (orif) she will go after that. That is so exciting! I am so proud to know someone like that.
Today I learnt how to make butterscotch sau e - YUM! ialso figured out how to bake a no-bake cheesecake. (stick it in the oven and hope for the best) Does anyone know if that will increase its fridge-life? please say yes, I got stuck with it and now have to eat it all. However - it was goood with the butterscotch...
Hey, I played nite-lite golf last nigh for the first time.. Sooooo funny. Someone invented new LED luminous golfballs that really shine. Had a great time!!!
I love butterscotch!!!! and cheesecake!!!! Man that's gooood...

What a day it must be in the stars. I finally got out of bed and did something normal. I repainted my weathered garden gnome and a few others for my strawberry garden. It was relaxing. I made a minecraft cake for my son last June. My children have been Link and zelda multiple times. Will be starting a new Zelda for my daughter who is 14 and an incredible singer though I am not. I also have a doll room showcasing lovely's from the 80's can you guess who?
haha, I have to bake a sword cake! Wonder if it would be better in cheesecake or something meringue-y, or something in between, perhaps. Oh well, will just have to try it all!
Strawberry garden, I am super jealous! I stick with herbs and lettuces, as my balcony only gets a little morning sun. Any tips?
Yes I will pm you. Happy activity bought more paint for some crafty jobs around the house and new cleaning tools that reach were short people can't. Nice smells of lemon freshness!

Ah, I love a clean house. That doesn't mean I love cleaning, tho... I went to see a Norwegian film at the cinema yesterday. They don't show them often in Exeter, so had to go and get a slice of home. It was about Thor Heyerdahl and his raft, and it was quite funny! It did reaffirm that British people don't get Norwegian humour. Well, I don't get British 'funny', so... BasicallyI I laughed (loudly), then my Oz friend chimed in once the subs caught up, and then...*quiet* :-) Great evening!
I have been trying new recipes as a new hobby. (My poor husband! lol) I found one for Spicy chicken cacciatore that is wonderful! It was on the weight watchers website and is supposed to help with weight loss and speeding up the metabolism. My husband said it helps you loss weight because it is so hot and spicy it burns all the way down! haha We enjoy it anyway and I like spicy foods. When you are stuck at home day after day it is fun to try something you have never tried. I'm considering learning how to sew but my vision blurrs often so that has been put on hold for now. I will keep looking for new ideas of things to try and I'm enjoying reading this post! Thanks so much for the break from the pain discussions!
virginiagirl, cooking is the best, it is so fun and keeps you really engaged. I was just thinking about what today's evening meal should be. Spicy is good stuff, at the moment I am steeping a few chili oils. One has fresh garlic in it too, yum. I also threw some sitrus peel in a jar with some extra virgin olive oil, I am impatient to try that. Hm, tonight I fancy something bread based. Somehow I think a pizza might cut it- maybe with some feta and rocket, ooo. By the way, what is cacciatore?
I may have misspelled cacciatore. I do that a lot these days. It is a spicy Italian dish with chicken, pasta, tomatoes, and lots of peppers and vegetables. You can google it and find many wonderful recipes!
Yum, cacciatore sounds good! I love Italian. A few of my best friends are Italian, and I used to have one as a housemate, too. He used to cook his weekly batch of sauce on Sundays like his gran taught him, and there was often plenty left for us others... As an archaeologist, is of course divine as a holiday destination. But to be completely honest, I go there for the food! :-)
I started to read a social anthropological book about the Acholi of North Uganda yesterday. What a different world that is. They struggled with war and interment camps, and broad scale ethnic racism until 2006, and they still have a way to go before everything is peaceful again.
Exeter Food festival is on this weeken, and I went yesterday with a friend to sample lots of delicacies, from chili sauce to excellent cider, and so much cheese I was full when we came out of there. We decided to make the most of our Saturday, as we both work hard during the week, so we went to a clothes store, picked out the items that we hated most and tried them on. Fun-we nearly doubled over laughing! We both saved money instead of going in to look for nice things. And - we agreed that it made us appreciate our existing wardrobes much more. :-) :-)
Wow, that's amazing! That will be a beautiful commemoration, making the rose garden real. I wish I could do things like that in a day. :-) I am doing something with much less physical output... spent all day yesterday working on a proposal for doing an excavation in Uganda. Actually kind of fun, too. I love writing, somehow writing a good academic document feels very fulfilling. I am pretty sure it would be dreadfully boring to others, but to me it is fun!
Not to mention, the dig will be very much fun and physical. :-)
I came home after a couple days away and found that a bear bent over my fence (I wish they would learn to use the gate) and helped themselves to the suet I had hanging for the birds destroying the holder. Also tore down my wasp trap and tore that up. If that wasn't enough they decided that the garbage in the dumpster should be out scattered on the ground instead of inside the dumpster. Not very good manners! lol
