I’m heading to kingston to see my neurosurgeon for a second appointment today. I’m not sure what to expect. We went over the mri last time and he said I was a good candidate for an mvd. I have a list of questions for him that are mostly thanks to reading this website and all if your blog posts. I guess we will make a decision today. If I get the answers I expect from him then the decision is yes. That being said I’m very afraid of this surgery.
It is perfectly normal to be nervous and scared. I dont think any of us who have ever had MVD surgery didnt share in those emotions. All I can say is to get all of your questions answered and be sure your surgeon has extensive experience with TN and MVD surgery. The success rate for MVD is very high and it is the one thing that can give you back your pain free life. Wish you the very best of luck and make sure to let us know how you make out
Thanks Ed. The appointment went well. After having gone over the mri at his leisure he has found that the nerve is sandwiched between two arteries one above and one below. He was really good to deal with. He put me at my ease and answered all of my questions and more. I have decided to go ahead with the surgery. It seems that it will be done some time in may. Now I have 3,5 months to worry about it. It will be so nice to be off these drugs. I wonder what it’s like to be awake and alert all the time. It’s been so long I can barely remember. Speaking of which maybe my memory will even improve. So much to look forward to. Wishing you all a pain free day.
Thats great that it showed on your MRI....They will just move the arteries a bit and cover the nerve with teflon pad. A shame that you have to wait so long though. Look forward to a pain free summer!!!
Hopefully pain free yes. Would be great to get rid of those drugs too. Lyrica 450mg and tegratol back up to 800mg. He wants to do it sometime in May and said I’d be off work until the 1st of September. So I’m really not sure what to expect. I really had been hoping for a sooner date for the mvd. While I’m really looking forward to these things I’m also very apprehensive of the surgery.
