Awaiting MVD

Just a quick update. I saw my neurosurgeon on 17th December after being referred on to him urgently by my neurologist. My MRI scan clearly shows a large blood vessel in direct contact with the trigeminal nerve on the right side (he even showed me the MRI image on the computer) which was interesting to see. The left side looks completely OK but on the right it's well and truly in contact with a blood vessel for quite a distance by the look of it, so he says it's no wonder I'm experiencing a lot of pain. I had all the pre-op assessments carried out the same day, and he says he will perform an MVD within weeks (hopefully). I don't have a date yet, but will be receiving one in the post soon I think. So, now I'm excited at the prospect of hopefully being "fixed" but at the same time pretty scared about the whole thing!! Anyway, here's hoping!!

Many thanks to all my new friends here for your help and advice, I don't know how I would have got through any of this without your help. Wishing you all a happy and comfortable New Year. Suzy.

Hi Suzy,
You and I are in the same boat it seems, awaiting mvd…I completely understand your feelings, excitement at the possibility of a fix from this pain as well as fear about the whole process! I’ve been trying to focus more on the hope that this surgery provides rather than the fear but some days the fear and anxiety creeps in. ; )
I also don’t have a date yet…my neurosurgeon has an 8 month waiting list…but I’m on the cancellation list and do have the option if my pain really worsens to request a sooner date.
All the best of luck to you! Keep us posted .

Please don't forget to tell us how it went AND

It takes up to ONE year for possible total pain relief and nerves to heal!!!

So happy for you! I can imagine how excited and nervous you are all at the same time. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted.

Fingers crossed for you! Please please come back and post about how it goes. I'm thinking i may ask about having this done and any pre or post op info is helpful (and hopeful).

Really and truly wishing the best for you,

~Mistee

Thanks Mimi, good to talk to someone in the same boat! Sounds like you may have a longer wait for the op though, but maybe a cancellation will come up more quickly for you - I hope so. Like you I'm trying to think positively about the experience - at least now we have hope that this thing can be fixed! Maybe 2013 will be our lucky year! I will keep you posted. In the meantime Happy and Healthy New Year to you!! Suzy

I will do KC, and thanks for the advice about the length of time it may take to heal properly. Suzy
